Wrath of Jaeger

Cadet Jaeger, Jaeger, and oh look! Jaeger!

Two years went by, and I had continued training, and begun training Kaori. She was just as fast a learner as I was. We walk through the town, stopping to say goodbye to the Tailor lady, whose name was Meiko, the hay man, Baen, and the trader guy, Sean Czechel. Today was the day they went to join the cadets. 

"Minna-nee." Kaori was three now, but looked eight. She was as smart, if not smarter than me. 

"Yes Kao-chan?"

"C-can I use your last name?"

I stare shocked. "Kaori Jaeger." I said at last. It fit. I nod smiling.

"Thanks!" She grinned. 

Soon, though, the air around us turned serious. Memories of two years ago playing on repeat. 'Mom...'

They arrived at the Cadet camp, and stood in formation, their Salute firm. Roll was being called. Finally it reached us.

"Eren Jaeger!"

"Sir!" That was his voice. I almost looked. Almost.

"Kaori Jaeger!"

"Sir!"

"Minnami Jaeger!

"SIR!" My voice has nothing but determination. I will be the best Scout, and to do that, I must be the best Cadet.

I heard whispers about how we must be siblings, due to having the same last names.

"SHUT IT! Now.." I tuned out the rest. They didn't matter to me.

"TRAINING BEGINS TOMORROW AT DAWN!!"

"SIR!" We chorused.

That night me and Kaori slept as we normally would instead of using individual bunks. Curled around each other with me holding her protectively. I wasn't surprised she got in, she looks to be old enough, though she is three, nearing four.  I had to lie about her age, saying she was eleven. She looked eight though, and they only believed me due to Kaori's smarts.

I woke in the night to someone shaking me. I look and see-

"Jaeger." I say. What did Eren want?

"Minna, it's me. Eren."

"I know who you are."

"Yeah, your brother."

I feel anger rise up in me. "I'm sorry, but I only have a sister, and she is right here sleeping."

Eren looked sad, and guilty. "Look, I'm sorry. I never realized I was ignoring you."

"Ignoring me? You forgot me. The day Ackerman was brought to the family. You forgot. She never noticed. I was your sister. She was an extra."

"Minna.."

"Don't call me that!" I hissed, eyes narrowed.

Kaori woke up. "Minna-nee?"

"Shh, Kao-chan, go back to sleep. I'm just talking to a fellow Cadet in training."

Kaori looked down, and saw Eren. Her pretty eyes grew cold. "That is Jaeger?" She asked.

"Yes. Jaeger was just leaving. Right?" I ask. Eren gulps and nods.

I wanted to believe him, wanted him to be my big brother again, but he had hurt me. So until he proved himself, he was just Eren Jaeger.

I sleep fitfully, and wake with cramps. It's that time.... I groan, and run to the bathroom. I come out feeling miserable. Kao-chan runs up to me. "We have today to get used to the barracks. We have Ackerman, Jaeger and Armin with us."
