(Jaden POV)
"Vanessa...Ross is it?", one of the interrogators said while looking through the file's papers. "That's how you met her?"
"Yeah, I just said that", I replied softly.
"I didn't ask you for the attitude. Now, tell me more about Miss Ross", he stated with a glare.
"What about her? The girl I met that night or the girl she became?", I snickered. He noticed there was an alternate meaning to my point.
"I want to hear about how she was when you two met", he said back.
"When Vanessa first spoke to me... I don't know. There was something about her that made me feel the need to talk to her in the first place. She gave off this mysterious vibe, I guess I just wanted to learn more. She didn't even know who I was, but for some reason still seemed to care about my situation", I said. "So did the others."
"Tell me about them."

(Vanessa POV)
(May 19th)
I rolled over in my bed, grunting from the sunlight in my face. I was never a morning person, and clearly nothing has changed. I got up and threw my hair in a messy bun, not caring about my appearance. Needing to use the bathroom, I opened the door and-
"SURPRISE!"
"AH! What the fuck?", I screamed and threw my arms up ready to fight. Finally taking a look at what was in front of me, I realized I completely forgot what today was. My birthday, great. Next thing I knew I was on the ground.
"Okay, okay, get of me dude", I said with a laugh. Mia, one of the sisters, squeezed me with a hug and finally rolled over. I took that as a chance to stand up.
"I'm sorry! It's just that I know it's your birthday so you have to feel special today and-", Mia started while still on the floor.
"I know, I know", I said extending an arm to help her up. "Thank you. Trust me you didn't have to do shit". I walked back over to my bed and grabbed my phone to check if I had any messages. Usually I didn't have many, but this morning I saw something different.
*Unknown Number: hey, it's jaden from the other night. you made some good points and i realized a lot... i think i could actually use some help*
*Me: yeah, of course. here's the address to our apartment: 5283 Miller Dr. come by today and meet everyone!*
*Unknown Number: i can come by now.. if that's cool? if not i get it obviously, i'm just in the area.*
*Unknown Number: you can say no of course*
I laughed to myself.
*Me: calm down lol, you're fine. come on*
*Unknown Number: okay! be there in 5*
I set my phone back on my bed. It was funny to see Jaden sound so nervous when he spoke with such confidence the other day. I had a feeling he'd get back to me on his own time. I waited for him to arrive in my room, not wanting to see anymore birthday surprises from the others. After a couple minutes, I heard a knock at the door and walked out to open it.
"HAPPY-"
I ignored everyone and opened the door to find Jaden standing there idly. His dark skin was hidden beneath his over-sized sweats. His hair was messily braided into a bun and he was playing with the ends of his hoodie. When he realized the door was open, he looked up at me with a small smile.
