People always say that if you love someone, you should let them go right?
Wrong. Absolutely wrong.
If you love someone, you fight till your last dying breath, and clasp their heart tightly within your fingers-never to let them go. Because something worthwhile is definitely something worth fighting for. After all, true love only happens once, and if you let it go you are never ever going to find anything else quite like it.
In the pavilion, an organ started playing, signalling my cue to start walking. I brushed my gown once, grasped my bouquet firmly and put one dainty stiletto-clad heel in front of another. This was it. It really was happening.
As I walked down the aisle, the crowd gave a polite round of applause, turning to look at me. They were all here- everyone who was anyone had come to at least be a part of the audience of what would be the most talked about wedding for years to come, the most beautiful final chapter of the greatest and most tragic love story that would ever be told. Romeo and Juliet? Childs play compared to this. Truly, if their story is said to be beautiful and tragic, no one in the entire universe would be able to come up with enough superlatives to even begin to describe this tale.
I glanced around me, barely making out a few satyrs and centaurs near the back pews. Dozens of lesser godlings were scattered on either side of the pews with the olympians and titans seated more towards the front.
Once Nyx had been defeated, the gods had returned- their souls set free from the moment of her demise. Aphrodite was seated in between a jealous Ares and Hephaestus, brimming and radiating with energy as the ultimate highlight of her cause unfolded before her very eyes. The three brothers Lord Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were also seated together, not bickering for once and watching contentedly as the bridal procession made its way along the aisle. I even barely made out the twins, Artemis and Apollo squabbling quietly as they poked light fun at each other.
No one could have ever asked for a more beautiful ceremony. The pavilion had been done up exquisitely, with Greek columns surrounding the pavilion, adorned with natural moss and draped with billowing white cloths. The aisle was dotted with just the right amount of rose petals, (trust me, with the way Atropos was ordering people, checking and rechecking every miniscule detail, I doubt that anybody would have found anything out of place- even if they inspected it with a magnifying glass!) and all around the pavilion, the flowers were in bloom and the birds were singing their gayest song yet. Even the sky seemed to be working in our favour- never had it been that exact shade of bay blue before, with just the right amount of clouds hanging in the sky. Not too many that the clear blue was curtained by the clouds, but just enough to ensure that the light streaked through with just the right intensity.
It was perfect. A gift from the gods. Well, it literally was, after all.
I looked ahead and saw Eldor on the organ, chuckling as I recalled the hustle the eldest fate had caused when the pianist had called to say she was ill with the stomach bug this very morning. I swear her face nearly turned purple till her boyfriend came up to her, kissed her and assured her that he was more than capable of replacing the pianist.
Atropos... such a drama queen as always. Seriously, the muses were actually more than happy to orchestrate the bridal march, but no, Miss Hot Temper would not stop her rant even long enough to hear me out.
Up ahead, a certain primordial goddess stood at the altar, acting as priest. That had been simple. There really was no one else who would have been better suited for the role than Chaos herself.
Seated in the front most pew, another familiar primordial goddess sat, with tears of immense joy and pride- threatening to spill from her amber eyes. Ananke definitely couldn't have been prouder, or happier to witness the intertwining of threads of one of her beloved daughters, with the man she loved.
