"Wha- pfft- wai- no, we were not-" stuttered Mina, as she stood up to defend herself and her set of 'goons'.
I was unexpectedly shocked, all I could do at this moment, was quietly leave the class, following Chan to the nurse's office.
I turned my head briefly for a sec to see her eyebrows furrowed in displeasure, arms crossed against her chest, with that everlasting stare piercing right through me.
We left the class, slowly making our way down the silent corridor, till we pulled into the nurse's office.
"Ah, what brings you two here?" The nurse stood.
"She feels a bit unwell," Chan indicated, as the nurse motioned towards me to sit on the bed laid across the room.
"I see, thank you for bringing her here, you could go back to class now," the nurse smiled towards him.
"Oh no it's fine, I'm new here so I'm not really familiar with the surroundings. Plus, I was told to accompany her, so it's alright," Chan flashed a smile, as he sat beside me.
The nurse smiled politely, as she accidentally poked the bruised area on my head where I have been hit.
I hiss out in pain. The nurse flinched back, "hmm.. its seems like you got a bruise on your head, did you hit something? Because that could cause you a minor concussion and feeling of dizziness. It's not contagious though. I'll add some ointment, put a bandage to cover that area, and give you a paracetamol. You'll be alright. If you still feel a bit unwell, you can rest here for a bit and return to class."
"Alright, thank you," I let out a murmur, slowly following up with a bow.
"Kyung, are you ok, you seemed to be at the verge of breaking down.. I feel concerned," Chan began. I looked at him, though he couldn't see my expression under my face mask, I assured him that I was fine.
"It's alright, I'm ok!"
If only that was the truth..
RRIING! The sound of the school bell echoed across the building. Finally, it's lunch time. I pranced out of my classroom with my lunchbox in-between my hands right into the canteen filled with other busy seniors and sophomores, chatting, giggling around and overall enjoying their meals.
I settled down at the very corner of the canteen, sitting all by myself. I opened my lunch box and began munching on my prepared meal. BAM! A hand slammed harshly against the table, I trembled in fear and shock to the sudden attack. What a great way to ruin my day even further. My head unsettlingly looked up, to see Mina and her group, swarmed like flies around me.
"Hey freak, go eat on the floor or something, we want to sit here," ordered Mina who had a sarcastic smug yet mean look on her face, while flexing her newly painted nails coloured in pink and gold. Disgusting, if I should say myself.
"Um...n-no," I mustered up the courage to answer timidly, the anxiety slowly washing over me after I've come to realisation of my refusal. What could happen now? Will I get beaten? Or die? Perhaps go into coma?
'Someone..anyone..help me..'
"Oh?... Now you started to deny our orders?! YOU-"my body flinched. I knew it, I might go home in- but wait..did she hit me? Why don't I feel anything..?
To my surprise, I saw Chan. He held Mina's hand firmly beneath his possibly tight grip.
"What were you going to do." he said sternly, tightening the grip around Mina's arm, causing her to wince.
"Why does i-it matt- OW!"
"She was here first, this is rightfully her spot. She can sit here if she wants to. You idiots should mind your own business for once!" He yelled firmly, continuing to grip her hand with force. Mina's winces felt brutal- thank god I am not in such position.
"I thought everyone in our class were great people, but it seems like some of you just are a pain in the ass," he let out, glaring right into Mina's now teary eyes.
The others stood there, completely frozen. I realised that this situation has caused a huge commotion around us.
Chan let go of her swollen hand. Mina and her gang left and rushed over to the nurse's office. A moment of silence played for a while. It was indeed quite a shock. Murmurs did go around here and there later on, about the fact that Mina riled up drama with "new kid" and the "nobody".
"Does this always happen to you or something?" Asked Chan, who sat on the opposite side of the table, I handed him a tissue to wipe the sweat that ran down his forehead.
"Um, y-yeah, thank you by the way" I murmured, twisting my chopsticks around my homemade japchae
"no problem! By the way, if you don't mind me asking, why do you wear a mask, you don't seem to be sick or anything" He questioned.
I felt hesitant, I know if I told him it's to cover my hideous face, he would reply with a 'you're pretty..what do you mean?'
"Well, I just..like hiding my face, or.. at least half of my face I should say," I replied.
"I see," he shrugged off, though I feel like it may be an answer he doesn't necessarily believe. Shrug it off I guess..
Although, what rose MY curiosity was the reason why he stood up to me, to the girl with straight black hair, that has amber with a mix of brown eyes-somewhat forming an ombre- along with a light tan skin, and no charm whatsoever.
'why would he stand up to a suicidal nobody like me?..'
