We stepped back out into the party just in time for Mrs. Abernathy's grand entrance.

All the guests crowded around the staircase to watch her descend. She smiled and waved, taking her sweet time.

Katrina leaned in to whisper in my ear. "Are people taking pictures?"

I sighed, rolling my eyes slightly. "Unfortunately..."

After a very drawn out period of time, Mrs. Abernathy reached the last step, readying herself to address the crowd.

"Hello everyone, I'm honored you could all join me tonight in my beautiful home..." She started.

I scoffed. "At least she's humble."

Katrina chuckled as Mrs. Abernathy continued.

"As you all were made aware of, we're holding a special dinner to help raise funds for children's cancer research."

A polite round of applause rang out.

"But, I don't expect any of you to shell out your money for free, in exactly one hour we will be holding a very special auction. Ninety-five percent of the proceeds will be donated to a cancer research center of our choice."

   "Ninety-five percent?" I asked angrily.

Katrina rubbed my shoulder. "Relax, I'm sure she's only kidding."

   "Doubtful..."

"... So, before we get to that, I'd like to have everyone join us in the dinning room for a lovely four course meal my master chefs have prepared."

A few quiet cheers and claps sounded off as everyone filed into the dinning room.

Three long tables stood in the middle of the room. Golden sconces and fancy paintings lined the walls.

Katrina and I found a seat near the head of the middle table, directly across from Luna and Todd.

"Lovely to see you again, dear." Todd greeted Katrina.

As if on cue, Luna and I rolled our eyes.

Before I could even open my mouth, the beautiful blonde from before sat down next to me.

'Why? Why me?' I asked internally, looking up at the ceiling.

   "Hello again." Lilith greeted.

I gave her a small nod.

As if the world didn't hate me enough already, Beverly sat down next to Luna, a familiar older man in tow.

She shot me a glare while Richard smiled warmly at me.

Then, as if my life needed anymore of a beating, Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy sat next to Lilith and Richard at the head of the table.

I took in a few slow breaths before feeling a hand slip into mine from under the table.

I took a small side glance at Katrina, she had a worried look on her face.

"Are you ok? You look like you're ready to blow your brains out."

I sighed. "That actually sounds pretty appealing right now."

She opened her mouth to speak, but Mrs. Abernathy's voice cut her off.

"I hope everyone found seats, because dinner is served."

Servers quickly entered the room, placing the first course in front of everyone.

"Wow, it's actually on a silver platter." Katrina said.
