Chapter song: Going Through Changes by Army of Me

*******************************************************************************

The reverberating music was shaking the entire house. There were people everywhere dancing, talking, making out, just about everything and anything you'd find at a high school house party. "Hey Sven, man, loosen up! Have a drink!" a baseball teammate slurred while slinging an arm around my neck and an almost empty red solo cup in his opposite hand. I shook my head, "Nah, I don't drink." He just shrugged, "Whatever you say man," then walking off to where ever.

I was just about to go get a coke when my phone rang. I walked outside to the porch in the front and fished it out of my pocket and answered it, "Hello?" There was scuffling noises and yelling, the caller ID said it was my Grandma.

"Grandma?! Hello!?" I yelled into the phone. I lived with my grandma and our house was a few blocks away. There was the sound of breaking glass, "Sven! Ther-," there was a bang and a blood curdling scream that came from my grandma. I dropped my phone and started to run in the direction of our house. I was crossing a street when there was a horrendous screeching of tires on pavement and an ear-piercing metallic crash and ripping noise. I looked over on impulse to see what was going on, but still intent on getting home.

A plow addition claded truck's brakes had went out and T-boned a chemical transport truck. The chemical transport truck swung and sprayed the entire intersection, the one I was crossing. I'll never forget the accident I just witnessed, it's the last thing I ever saw. I belted out a scream of agony, the burning, searing pain scorched my eyes, as I fell to my knees with my hands covering my closed eyes.

People were calling out to each other, maybe to me I could hear them but couldn't tell what was being said. Determined to get to my grandma I jumped up on to my feet and jogged the way I knew where my home was, the same path I'd taken hundreds of times before. I couldn't lose my grandma shes all I have, she taught me everything she knows about controlling our gift: dream walking. We are able to see things that happen before they happen in our dreams. The years of her training me on how to control my dream walking, how at the time I thought all of it was ridiculous.

When I started to stumble a little I stuck my right hand out to use the sides of buildings to guide me. I some how managed to get through the broken down front door my unbearable pain forgotten and full attention on finding my grandma. I could hear heavy breathing, "Grandma?" I asked. There was a faint reply that sounded close, feeling my way around the destroyed house I found her.

"Grandma, whats wrong, are you hurt, what happened?" I waited for her reply.

"Sven...I've been shot, and I'm going to die-" I interrupted, "What?! NO! You can't di-"

She was still breathing heavy,"Sven, listen to me- whats wrong with your eyes?"

I shook my head, "Nothing..." I didn't want her worrying about me, she was dying for God's sake! "Wheres the phone I'll call 911-"

"No, by the time they get here it'll be too late. Sven?"

"Yeah?"

"Promise me you won't tell anyone about you're gift, people will just want to use it for their own will. Thats how its always been."

I nodded my head, "Of course I won't tell."

"..Good... good."

By then her breathing had become very labored, I had taken her hand during our conversation, she was losing grip more and more.

"Grandma!" I gripped her hand harder, "Stay with me! Keep your eyes open!"

"...It's my time, I love you Sven."

Tears had started to burn my face due to the chemicals, "I love you too.." She gave my hand one last squeeze and then her hand fell from mine.
