I awake to a new warmth. Compared to just hours before, I feel perfect. When I open my eyes, everything is different. Like a baby entering the world, everything I see is new... and beautiful. Great vibrant colors and shades nowhere near as dark as what I was used to. The blur is gone and everything seems to have a perfect edge, there is no fuzziness left in my mind. Rounded shapes and two brilliant green eyes. I realize that what I'm looking at isn't just another something, but rather a someone.
He stands over me, his aluminum-colored skin shimmering. It reminds me of an elephant, for some reason. What's an elephant? Strands of white hair are stuck to the sweat on his forehead. The rest of his hair is short and choppy, like he got a haircut recently and they didn't do a very good job. I blink, taking in all the details of his face. Green eyes, long nose that is slightly upturnt, a thin upper lip accompanying a decent-sized bottom one, darker gray freckles around his cheeks. His cleanly-shaven jawline is strong, with cheekbones that look like they would cut you if you tried to touch them.
"It's waking?" The feminine voice from before asks from somewhere I can't see. Her voice is crisp and new to me like everything else. Who is she? Where am I? How did I get here? What happened? Where was I before? How come I just suddenly know all these things but I don't remember them ever being taught to me? There are so many questions buzzing around in my mind, far too many for just one person.
"Hello there, newborn. Welcome to the New World," The male above greets me in his soft tone, "You might want to give walking a try before we begin." Why hadn't I noticed I was laying on the ground? My legs feel like jell-o as I try to stand. A wince escapes my throat as I feel myself slam back down on the ground. My back landed on a soft cushion, but why could I feel the cushion's pain? This goes on for a few minutes. Eight failed attempts later, The grey-skin grabs my arms.
"Here," He pulls me up onto my feet and holds me there. I'm able to keep myself up with him there. It's odd, how calming his touch is. A tingling sensation starts at the top of my legs and makes it's way down to the very tips of my toes before ceasing completely. Slowly, he loosens his grip on my arms. I stare down at my feet and a goofy wide grin spreads across my face. I'm standing!
"For a moment, I thought it might've been off-balance because of the deformities. I'm surprised it's still here, honestly," The woman's words make my smile disappear.
"Lira," He warns in a low voice. I'm too busy staring at my feet to look up. Just moments ago, I was very proud of myself. Now, I'm just confused. What deformities do I have? I've got two feet, two legs, two hands, two arms, the right amount of fingers and toes. My ears and eyes work just fine. I can understand what they're saying so it can't be with my mind.
"What's wrong with me..? " I ask hesitantly. My eyes leave my feet and that same feeling fills me again. I can see the both of them, now. They look almost exactly the same. The hair color, the eyes, the shimmering aluminum colored skin, the nose. I'm sure if I looked closer at the girl, she'd have freckles. They both bear similar clothing that looks like they were woven with crystal string. The next thing I notice is the wings. Gorgeous, huge, bird-like feathery wings. They match the clothes, sparkling like diamonds. The girl, Lira I suppose her name is, has her wings tucked in tight, while the other has his wings sort of open a bit. They both turn to look at me after I ask the question. However, Judging by their looks, it doesn't seem like I'll be getting an answer.
