We got up at around 7:30 this morning- 30 minutes earlier than we normally would. The instructors are just trying to get us into routine, I think. Next week we need to rely on ourselves to get up and get everything ready because we get to decide, next week, what time we get up at in the morning, where we camp over night, how long we walk for and how many breaks we have. All we'll be given is the map of the rest of our journey and it's up to us how long we take to finish it. Once we get to the very very end of the journey, all we need to do is go up to the information centre and tell them that we've finished and we'll get a wee bus thingy home.
It's all well and good saying all this now but there's over a week left! Plus, I don't know how I feel about the rest of my journey being controlled by Liam, Connor, Lucy, Emma and Tim. Especially Tim.
"Ooh, look!" Tim exclaimed, "a beach! There's a beach on the west highland way"
"I would call it a beach, Tim" Liam started
"Well there's sand, there's water- it's a beach" Tim shouted, taking off his bag and running towards the water
"Tim!" Lucy shouted, "what are you doing? We need to get on with this walk!"
"Come on!" Tim exclaimed, "we can take a wee 10 minute break and have a nice wee sunbathe, can't we"
"I think that's a great idea" Emma said, taking her rucksack off, "it's a lovely day-it's warm, it's sunny so why shouldn't we"
"But we need to get the walk finished" Lucy pouted, "I'm tired"
"Well gone you ahead then, Lucy" Tim instructed, "we'll catch up wae ye"
"But I don't want to go myself"
"Well let's have a vote then" Tim said, "hand up if you want to stay at the beach"
Tim, Liam and Emma's hand shot up straight away. Connor hesitated but then gradually put his hand up
"Who wants to continue walking?"
Lucy shot her hand up right away. She looked me in the eye with a sad glance. I sighed and put my hand up. To be honest, I was shattered too. I just wanted to get today over and done with and get a nice early night. I didn't want to jump about in the freezing water to then come out and get covered in sand.
"Well it's 4 against 2 so I guess we're staying" Tim gloated
"Come on, guys" Lucy groaned
"The majority won, Lucy" Tim argued
"Well I'm walking ahead" Lucy snapped, "and I'm taking the map"
"How are we supposed to know where to go?" Emma shouted
"Yous should've thought of that before yous voted to waste time at a beach that isn't even a bloody beach!"
"You're right" Tim started, "it isn't a bloody beach- it's a sandy beach"
"You are actually doing my nut in, Timothy" Lucy spat,
"Well have a packet of crips then. They're much better than nuts"
Lucy's face boiled with anger, "that's not ever funny. It's pathetic"
"I don't really care"
"Cool" Lucy replied, "well, I'm going ahead. See yous at the finishing point that is if yous actually get there" she shouted, "I have the map!"
Lucy stormed away. I was going to shout on her and tell her to wait as I was going to go with her but I didn't have the energy. I lay down on a rock and took deep breaths in. The sun was beating down hard which was weird because it's Scotland. I opened up my flask and poured a small cup of bovril (a traditional scottish beef drink) I closed one eye and held my hand up to the sun to try and block it off. A few moments later, the sun started to get dimmer and dimmer until it wasn't there at all. Droplets of water started to fall to the ground. They turned into drips of water which turned into buckets of water. It was pouring down!
