Maybe that's all we'll ever be, a half-written
story; Finished, without an ending.YGRITTE HAD PUT SIX ARROWS in his back as he rode away from the wildlings. Jon loves her, he had loved her too much to allow her to fight for him. Too much to allow her to go against her Wildling family, but his duty was to Castle Black. The Night's Watch, though her face of betrayal would be forever ingrained in his brain.
It would keep him up at night and steal away precious moments, but knowing the Wildlings plan to cross the wall and kill the men of the Night's Watch was more overwhelming than his love and guilt her would harbor for Ygritte.
Love is the death of duty.
Hadn't that been what Maester Aemon had told him when he contemplated Hermione's offer. This time, Jon had allowed his love for a Wildling girl cloud his honor and as he crossed the Wall on the back of a horse, breath shallow and on the brink of death, he's honor had taken precedence once more.
Still, it had been days since his arrival and there were moments as he lay there healing he had nothing else to do but think of Ygritte. The pain he had caused her, the night they shared in that cave, her soft lips pressing against his own as he buried himself deep inside her.
This all went away when Sam had come to visit him. Jon had been cleared to get back to his duties and the slight knock on his door took his mind away from the fire-kissed girl.
"Sam," Jon grinned pulling his boots onto his feet before standing up and pulling on his jumper. He wanted to ask how he'd been since his departure. If the Night's Watch were properly preparing themselves for what was coming, but Sam's face stopped his words in his throat. "What's happened?"
Fumbling throughout, Sam started the tale of the news that had reached him. There had been a massacre at the Twins during what was now being called The Red Wedding. All of Robb's men, Lady Catelyn, even Robb himself had been slaughtered—betrayed by the Boltons who had now declared for the Lannisters—his body had been paraded through the streets head severed with replaced with a wolf.
