The way people spell Matryoshka in English can be deceiving
And probably leads to a lot of mispronunciations
So imma clear it up for you! 👍

In Russian it is spelled матрёшка
Which I guess they romanized it correctly since each sound has its own romanization
But imma clear it up
I'm assuming most of you like kpop and so you may know what this sound sounds like "Yeo". Like in "Yeosang"
It's like "Yo" but it's a short vowel. So instead of it ended in almost a "w" sound you make it short??
Am I making any sense
That was also a tiny tangent
But basically when матрёшка is romanized into Matryoshka some people may think it's "ma-tree-osh-ka"
When really the "y" is just there because the letter "ë" would be romanized as "yo"
But the "y" isn't that important and doesn't get pronounced in матрёшка since it's VERRY difficult to say "ryo" as one vowel without pronouncing the "y"
But here is an example of when "ë" is most certainly pronounced with a "y": in the word ёжик which means hedgehog it is pronounced "Yo-xheek" or "Yo-jeek"
The "ж" letter is an entirely different set of difficulties and I am not going to get into now
I also think this may be the longest chapter in this book
