01 — THE INCIDENT
days repeat itself, but this one changed.
—
IT WAS A LOVELY MORNING, the light blue colour painted the sky and the faint clouds were slowly blowing themselves away. birds effortlessly chirped their songs away as they continue creating their cosy home. there, in a silent room was a cosy, warm bed, subtle heat filled the room up and dirty clothes splattered everywhere. a buzzing sound rang and rang for minutes, until the puzzled boy had opened his eyes. weary and tired he lifted his head up from his pillow with drool hanging loosely from his chin. his eyes began to adjust to the brightness of his room, was it only then he could continue moving. the frustrated boy reached out for his phone - which was still ringing loudly - stopped the alarm as fast as he could.
"8:25?! why again..." yohan complained. just like that, the race had begun; yohan jumped out of his bed and swiftly began his routine. "just where did i put my shirt," yohan sighed, he immediately rummaged through the pile of clothing that sat on his chair, "there!" the boy said. after wiping off the dust on the white shirt, he put the shirt on to match with the rest of his uniform. "ok, 8:30...I can make it to breakfast." yohan muttered. yohan snatched the blue bag from his table and ran down the wooden staircase.
a dog appeared suddenly as yohan was at the end of the stairs; it was a white, fluffy and small dog with eyes shaped like beads. "hey there mei!" yohan exclaimed in a high-pitched voice. "you didn't wake me up today, so I guess now I've got to hurry..." yohan continued. the cereal was placed on the old table and the teenager sat down, eating away all the fury that built up in him. "dang! it's already 8:40... i am so dead today." yohan remarked as he left the empty bowl on the piece of furniture and packed his belongings away, leaving the house vacant like always. being late to class was quite a common ritual for yohan, however, luckily he lives close to the school and his long legs are easily able to carry him there. the door opened, allowing a sudden cold breeze make its way through the house; yohan safely exited his home and began making his journey. wind whirled wickedly, making a sound endlessly and the dead leaves floated gently to the concrete ground. every step broke the delicate, brown leaves apart and every breeze blew pieces of nature far away. running like he in a pack of wolves, the dishevelled boy panted loudly as he brushed people who were walking past. his heartbeat were like beating drums, repeating the same melody over and over again. in the cold, misty sight, an image of a school appeared - it was a brown colour that had windows in every corner.
out of the breath, yohan placed his hands on his knees before entering the school grounds, wondering whether it was worth coming to school that day. reluctantly, he squeezed himself through the rusty, black gates with no trouble and headed straight to the enterance. all that was left for him to do was to sneak into his class without being caught by any staff member; an easy task. without noise, yohan made large leaps past any corridor where a teacher could be ready to catch him, his eyes fixed at every area of the school. finally, he saw the stairs that led him to his main classroom, yohan rushed his way up the stairs using the handles for gripping. from that point forward it was time to slyly enter his room. on the second floor was a large classroom, the room was deeply silent. "it's strangely silent..." yohan thought as he slid the door open . right in front of his eyes were misplaced chairs and a couple of books left on desks. standing there, between the door, yohan's mind went blank; there was not a single student in the classroom. he looked at the round clock on the wall, 8:49, something didn't add up. "what was it again?" , the boy stared, "...THE ASSEMBLY!" yohan said after a moment of reflection.
flinging himself backwards, yohan starting dashing across the hallways, ignoring teachers that casually walked past him. he escaped the building block with the wind blowing in his direction, yohan picked up his speed as his saw the other students making their ways to the main hall. they were like a swarm of bees, all bundled up trying to stay close with their friends, ignoring all teachers that separated them from each other. yohan's legs felt so loose, it was a struggle to keep balance.
