Oh no, I think I'm catching feelings...

(AN: 100+ reads?! Uhhh hehe heh... U-um... Hi, hello, thank you for reading my incredibly cringy story 😅)

It'd been a week since Caleb and I had spoken. We would sit in silence in class and after a few days, he'd stopped showing up. We wouldn't even pass each other in the hallways. Guess with a castle that big, there's multiple routes.
But...why was /he/ avoiding /me/? I just told him the truth. He /doesn't/ do crushes. Never has. Not sure if you'd call that aromatic or whatever but I've never heard him say the words "I have feelings for this person."
So...why did what I said affect him so? I wanted to find him, but every night at dinner he'd dash out of the Great Hall the moment we made eye contact. I was starting to worry if I'd lost my best friend.
I resorted to the only option I felt was available: I sent him an owl.
"Caleb...
What the hell?! First you /pin/ me to a wall for some stupid prank then the moment I'm the least bit straight with you, you shut me out  like I'm nothing to you? That's not how this works! I'm your friend! Talk to me!"
As I'm scribbling the words onto the light brown parchment, I realize my pent up anxiety was flowing from my head to my hand holding the quill. I take one slow long break before crumbling up the page and starting another.
"Caleb,
are you alright? We haven't talked in days. I'm..sorry if what I said upset you. Please just talk to me. I miss you."
I close my eyes to keep tears from rolling down my cheek. Sniffling once, I whistle for my owl, who was perched on the other side of the room. My owl Enid was a beautiful tawny owl with perfectly groomed feathers. She's a proper lady. I strapped a parcel to her foot, kissed the tip of her beak and sent her off into the night sky, biting my lip in anticipation. I knew it would be a few days before she came back but would she come back with an answer from Caleb?
Sure enough, 3 days went by and nothing. I was starting to think he didn't want anything to do with me anymore. But I didn't want to worry anyone, so I tried to go about my day as normal. I was sitting in the Great Hall eating breakfast with some housemates when I heard Enid's screech seconds before she came gliding in oh so gracefully, dropping an envelope on my plate directly in the center. Trained that girl well, I did!
My heart jumped when I saw my name in familiar handwriting. Caleb had written me back. I straighten up on the bench and take a deep calming breath before picking it up and tearing it open.
"I miss you too. Meet me on the quidditch pitch after curfew."
I hold the letter close to my chest and take another deep slow breath. So hadn't lost him after all...
