It has been a week since the day June and I met. Today, school re-opened. I woke up, dressed myself and headed downstairs. I reach the bottom floor to find Jonah and Octavia still sleeping on the sofa; Jonah laying with his head leaning backwards, facing the sky, Octavia curled up beside him. I walk quietly into the kitchen, trying not to disturb their slumber. I boil the kettle and prepare two mugs of tea and a mug of hot chocolate. I open the refrigerator to grab the milk only to find enough for two drinks. I look at the mugs on the counter and think. In the end, I decided to give Jonah and Octavia the milk and leave myself with black tea. It wasn't delicious but it was enough for me to sacrifice.
After preparing the drinks, I walk into the living room and place Jonah and Octavia's drinks on the coffee table. I write a note saying I've gone to school and that we are out of milk and proceed to put my shoes on. I unlock the front door and leave. I head down our driveway and turn towards June's house. As a first day, I figured I could walk with her to school. I arrive at her house and knock on her door. It opens revealing a beautiful girl in a blouse and skirt smiling. I smile back and she jumps towards me for a hug. She passes me a notepad of her own and signs to me to open it. I open it to find a portrait of me.
"You drew this?" I said.
She nodded.
"That's amazing!"
She smiled and we hugged.
"Oh, by the way..."
I gave her the notepad back and signed to her: "I've started learning more". She pressed her hands up to her face with a wide smile and jumped at me for a hug. We fell over as a result. She checked if I was okay, I checked if she was okay and then we stood up and brushed ourselves off. After that interesting morning, we head off on our way to school. On our walk, we reminisce about the past week that we've had . The days. The nights. all the time we'd had getting closer and closer in our friendship.
The day following our first encounter. It was a good day, the sun shining, birds tweeting and the scent of lavender filling the air. In the morning, I went to visit June like I said I would the previous day. When I arrived, I knocked on her door but there was no answer. After a couple of attempts and still no response, I say to myself that she must not be home right now and begin to turn around. Then I heard music coming from the garden. The side gate was unlocked so I entered. As I walked along the side of the house, the music grew louder, the soft symphony of piano and violin playing in unison.
As I reached the garden, I peeked around the corner to find June and a boy. The boy was playing the piano while June was playing the violin. I continued to hide around the corner with full view of the two playing. June's hair swayed in the wind as her bow glided across the strings of her violin. Her eyes closed while she concentrates on the music. Leaves fell in a slow downfall around her. It was blissful to witness. After some time, she opens her eyes and looks in my direction. I hide out of sight hoping she didn't see; I didn't want to distract her from playing.
As I hid around the corner, I heard the violin cut out while the piano continued playing. After a few seconds, the music stops. Silence overthrew the area for a few seconds before I finally emerged. June's eyes widened as she smiled widely. She placed her violin down and ran towards me for a hug.
"Hello" says the boy on the piano.
"H-Hi" said I.
June wrapped her arms around me.
"I'm Evan. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too. "I said nervously, "I'm Max."
