"G'bye dear, we'll miss you a ton!"
Mum gave me one last hug before allowing me to board the train.
Dad helped me heave my trunk aboard, and then gave me a brief kiss goodbye.
"Don't forget to write." He said, trying not to get too emotional.
"I'll be home for the holidays!" I said, as brightly as I could manage. "I'll be fine. Really, Dad. G'bye." I turned away from them. "Though I still don't see why you won't let me bring my tablet along." The door slammed shut behind me.

I walked along the bustling train corridor at a snail's pace, dragging my heavy trunk behind me.
"Scuse me, girly, but d'you need 'elp with that?"
"No, thanks."
"You sure? Looks mighty 'eavy."
"I'm fine."
Having finally spotted an almost empty compartment, occupied by only one other person, I reached out my hand to open the door, but-
"Don't sit in there, girly."
I turned to face him, annoyed.
"And why ever not?"
"Sour grapes, her family is. Long line of Purebloods. Don' want to get mixed up with that lot."
" And what exactly is that supposed to mean? Now, if you don't mind."
I pushed him aside, and entered the compartment. The only other occupant was was a rather short girl with long, dark hair in a half braid. She glanced up from the newspaper she was reading ( the daily prophet?), giving me a brief glimpse of narrowed, vividly green eyes, before turning back to her paper.
"Hi." I ventured timidly. "I'm Kara."
She looked up once again.
"Hi."
"What's your name?"
"Why?"
"Uhh... cuz we're going to be spending the next seven years as classmates?"
"I highly doubt that."
"And I told you my name."
"So? Your mistake."
"So, Miss Nameless, what exactly do we do at Hogwarts?"
She put down her newspaper, staring at me as though I was insane.
"Are you Muggleborn?"
"I think so."
"What do you mean by that? Are you, or are you not, Muggleborn?"
"What's Muggleborn?"
"Are your parents wizards?" She rolled her eyes, exasperatedly.
"No. Just me."
"You're Muggleborn." She returned to her newspaper, blocking me out completely.
I shrugged.
"But what exactly do we do at Hogwarts?"
"We learn." Came the muffled reply from behind the papers.
"I get that, but what?"
"Magic."
"What's your name?"
"None of your business. Now, if you don't mind, some of us are trying to read."
