That's how many stairs it took to get down to that awful band room.
I could hear "All Time Low" (what they call the band) practicing from the hall way. I prepared myself to make a scene. I took a deep breath and pushed both of the double doors open at once.
"That was totally off key!"
"Nice to see you too." Alex said as he was looking through sheet music. Maybe it was because I was so stressed. Finals were coming up and I had stayed up late studying. Or maybe it was because Alex was such an easy target to tease.
"Your voice sounds groggy, and well, let's not even get started on...that..." I pointed at his outfit. He just scoffed and kept staring down. I looked around the band room. Things were quieter than they should have been. Instruments were strewn around and papers were scattered everywhere.
"Where are the others? I heard music before I came in." He huffed "That was just me singing to one of our old songs. Don't worry, Lia, it's not going to be played at formal." "Really? I mean, I kind of liked it." His head shot up: I had his full attention. "Did you now?" I nodded and took a few steps closer to him. "What's it called?"
"Backseat serenade."
He was this close to seeing me smile until my friend Amy walked in.
"This is the last place I thought you'd be in." She looked at the both of us weirdly and I quickly backed away from Alex. "This is Alex. I told you about his band that's playing at formal."
"So you talk about me?" Alex cut in, with an arrogant smirk.
"I talked about the band, duh!" He laughed. His laugh was like finding a brand new Prada bag on sale, like the first glass of lemonade on a hot summers day. I subconsciously decided that I wanted to hear that laugh again one day.
"Whatever. Come on Lia, before we miss study hall." Amy said as she walked out.
Alex was still smiling his killer smile when I looked over. "Come over to my place tomorrow. We need to get you ready for formal, starting with you going on a new throat diet. My address is-"
"I know where you live." I knew I was well known around here, even to the less popular.
"I have one question, though: why do you want only me to come over? Don't tell me you're falling for me already."
I sneered at the ridiculous accusation, but felt a slight blush creep across my cheeks when I turned to leave. "As if, loser. Just be there at four."
"Whatever you say, angel."
I left the room with a frown. So Alex Gaskarth was coming over to my house.. How was I gonna hide this from the student body?
