"I'm exhausted. Tired to the bone. My heart doesn't even hurt anymore .", she smiled. The wind howled in her ears and caressed the constellation of purple bruises on her cheek. They looked ghastly. Too ghastly to be made by the most beautiful person in her life.

The silence was her only company nowadays , and frankly she preferred it over that of an actual human being. It was too tiresome to wear a smile when her lips trembled with every breath. The concealers did a marvelous job at hiding the splotchy proof of her agony while her melodious laughter concealed the bruises on her soul.

She swung her legs ,as she felt the cool air yet again graze her skin. Eight stories above , gave her a beautiful view of the horizon and the setting sun. The rush of the vehicles down below and the constant rush of pedestrians scrambling all about , soothed her.

Her heart pounded at the sight below , as she wondered for the millionth time if he ever loved her. The familiar sight of the Cafè brought a woeful smile upon her face ,as she reminicised of the beautiful days of laughter and joy they had. "You're a queen" , he had said . " You are a fierce ,strong and amazing woman of your own. If anyone is honoured to be with you ,it would be me."

And just like that, she fell for him. She fell in love with the one person who made her love herself.

When did it all change?', she wondered. When did we fall apart so bad? Slowly , then all at once , her tears increased as the rain poured , mixing her hot tears with cold ones. Guttural sobs escaped her throat as she wiped her cheeks. The emotions she used to stop at her lips ,now raged and rang out into the empty sky.

Her skin glistened against the darkness as the purple bruises faded against its dull background. She wished for the stars to appear . Her happiest moment with him , before the beatings started , was under the starry sky. She wished with all her might , that fate would abide by her wish. But then again, it never did. It never did that night, when her husband raised his hand for the first time. It never did, when he bet her for hours and hours straight ,until she could no longer feel her own body. It never did ,when she prayed with all her might that someone would help her. It never did , so why will it now?

The night was freezing cold. Perhaps the coldest it had been. On that particular night, as she stood on the ledge , she prayed one more time. Prayed with every inch of her soul.
She could only hope that he would think of her everytime he'd look up at the stars above.
