I'm in a party surrounded by a bunch of people I don't know. I'm smaller and I'm following my older brother around through the crowds of people. It seemed he was going too fast and he suddenly disappeared in the crowd.
It seemed like I was swallowed by the tall crowd of people and adults. I went around in circles and all I could see were the giant legs of the people that were gathered at the party. "Where is he" I kept on thinking. The anxiety of not being found again rose and tears I could hear as my breath started getting louder and faster. Everything was blurring our it seemed like.
But then something grasped my arm, I turned to see a boy. He was taller and I felt comfortable around him for some reason. As he led me out of the crowd and spotted someone yelling to them, "Andy! I found her!" There in the distance I saw my brother turning around and coming over to us. "Where were you?" He asked me, "I told you to stay behind me."
Sirens blared loudly and everyone in the party turned red and blue flashed through the windows of the place and everyone crowded seeing what was going on outside.
The sirens slowly turned into beeping. Then I realized... work.
My body shot right up and then immediately fell back down on my bed. I was dizzy and exhausted from getting up too fast. I turned my body onto my side and grabbed my phone from my bedside counter. I turned off the blaring alarm and squinted at the time.
'6:30 AM... Saturday' I must've forgotten to turn my alarm for school off from yesterday. I tried falling back asleep but it was too late. Light was shining through the windows even with the blinds closed. And they were annoyingly shining right onto my eyelids.
I got up once again and slowly grudged out of the bed. I stood up and walked to the bathroom brushing my teeth and putting in contacts. I had work that started in an hour so I supposed that I could probably get some breakfast. I got dressed in my work clothes and drove to the diner near my work.
"Hey Val," I heard as I walked in.
I sat down in a booth where the lights wouldn't be shining in my face through the windows. The server came up to me with a cup of coffee and setting it down on my table.
"Blueberry pancakes?" She asked with a knowing smile.
"You know me too well, Cass," I replied to my best friend as I took a sip of my coffee. She chuckled and went on going to the next table to take their order. I looked outside, I saw what it seemed like a group of intimidating guys negotiating with each other about something. 'They seemed like gang members,' I thought to myself.
Cass came out with my piping hot pancakes which made me drew my attention immediately. They looked delicious as they always do. I took a bite out of the fluffy goodness and it just melted in my mouth. Cass slid into the booth across from me and took a bite of my pancakes.
"Yah nothing beats this place's pancakes," she said, " this is why I started working here."
I chuckled at her comment but I would have to agree they were to die for pancakes. "Anything new with you and lover boy?" I asked her.
"Things are just great," she said sarcastically.
"What happened this time?" I asked her with a sigh.
"He's being a dick, I swear he's cheating on me," she answered.
"Then why not dump his ass?"
"But..."
"But... what?"
"What is its all just a misunderstanding?"
"Dear god, Cass if you think that way than confront him. You guys barely talk to each other now it's no wonder you have so many problems." I said to her as I looked at the time on my phone. "I gotta go, I'm gonna be late for work," I added as I quickly paid for the food and rushed out the door.
"Text me when your shift is done!" Cass shouted at me as I ran out the diner.
I arrived at work and clocked in. Me and Cass had similar jobs, the positions were the same but the environment was drastically different. The dim lit restaurant only had a few costumers this early in the morning. I walked into the kitchen, and saw all the employees gathered around a table.
"Morning Val," the manager said, "we're having a short meeting right now."
"We're having important guest tonight so on your best behavior everyone" he said. "Val you'll take the guest that are coming tonight," he added.
"Got it," I said. Everyone quickly got back to their own job.
The manager walked up to me and said, "I'm counting on you to give us a good rep tonight."
I gulped, sounded like a lot of pressure really. 'Who is this important guest anyways' I wondered.
