-Minnesota POV-

"Augh, what the-?" New York asked walking through the living room, clearly startled by our genius prank. "Again, guys? C'mon!"

"Sorry, not sorry, Yorkie!" Michigan said to the state completely drenched in soda. Iowa was on the ground, laughing his a$$ off, and Wisconsin was doubled over with laughter. I was laughing too hard to say anything. North Carolina came into the room.

"Can you guys knock it off?" He shouted. He was clearly pissed. Then again, he hated us, and the other northern states, and we hated the southerners. We didn't think of each other as annoying, we just strongly disagreed on certain topics. Most specifically slavery. The southerners see 'nothing wrong' with slavery. I just dont understand them. And their beliefs about how good slavery is, it ticks me off!

"Oh, get outta here, you slavery-loving bullsh!tter!" Illinois threw back at NC.

"Hey, hey! What's going on over here?" A familiar voice asked. My laughter finally stopped so I was actually crossing my arms, looking to my left so NC could only see the back of my head. I turned my head to see a concerned and worried United States.
He wasnt looking too good, I'll say that. His color was all over the place, with some of his face on the left red with what seems to be two blue lines which I think were supposed to form an x at the center outlined by white, and some white stars. The other side, I guess you could call normal. Just some spots are discolored all over him, but he still had the same 13 stripes. He had cracks in him, it looked like he would break soon.

"These dimwits are pranking the others again!" NC whined. He had a look of disgust on his face, almost as if he hated even being in our presence.

"Yeah, and then you intervened-!" Wisconsin chimed in.

"Okay, let's stop the fighting, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, say you're sorry to New York, and North Carolina, just walk away. New York you can go to the bathroom to take a shower or something, " America cut Wisconsin off.

"Sorry Yorkie, couldn't help it!"

"Yeah, sorry man."

"We're sorry!"

"Its fine, I just wish y'all would stop with the pranking sometimes."

"FINE, I'll LEAVE."

-April 11, 1861-

I woke up to the sound of glass breaking on the floor. I got up out of my bed, and fumbled around to find the door in our pitch black room, trying very hard not to wake the sleeping York.

I share a room with New York. Everyone shares a room with at least one other person. I was lucky enough to only have one roommate, who's almost never in the room.

Found the door. I open it and sneak downstairs into the kitchen. What do I see? I see America on the floor and a familiar figure standing above him. America seemed to be himself again, the normal flag with 30-something stars and 13 stripes. No discoloration or anything. The other figure was red, and had a blue x go through the back of his head outlined by white. I sat on the stairs in the dark and listened to them.

"W-who are you?" America sounded scared, startleness and worry underlining his voice.

"Surprised you havent heard my name yet, Ame. I'm the Confederate states of America." He turned to the stairs so I could see his face. He didn't seem to notice me. He had stars on his face, in the middle of the blue lines.

"What's happening down there?" A voice whispered behind me. I gave a small but quiet yelp. I turned to face the figure behind me. It was South Carolina.

"I dont know SC, but I'm gonna sneak into the living room, see if I can get closer. Did the smashed glass wake you up too?" I whispered back.

"Yeah, but I didn't wanna check it out. Curiosity got the best of me."

I pressed my lips together and looked back at what was happening. America was on his feet. He looked ready to kill this Confederate guy. The Confederate was turned back around and I saw that as a chance to get to the living room. I quickly but quietly ran down the last few stairs and around the corner behind the wall that divided the dining room and the living room. I peeked my head around the wall and continued to listen.

"Dont you dare hurt any of them!" America shouted.

"Oh, but I think I might~," Confederate spat back. A noise was heard from the stairway. South Carolina stepped wrong on the last stair and it squeaked. I think she was trying to follow me to the living room. She froze as Confederate faced her and smiled, looking back at America.

"And I think I know who the first victim is."
