The woman looked into the bedroom. She could never walk past this room without stopping.
At least we left it... just like it was....
"Mommy?"
She looked down and smiled slightly.
"Yes, honey?"
"Daddy wants to talk to you."
"Alright."
She looked around the room again.
Oh, why wasn't I brave enough? I could have saved him.
She went downstairs.
The black-haired man looked at her with a smile.
"Good morning, Lily."
"Good morning, Severus. What was it you wanted?"
"Simply to see my lovely wife this morning." He pulled her close and kissed her tenderly.
She smiled and said nothing. There was a tug on her skirt.
"Mommy..."
Severus smiled at the little girl. She ran into his arms.
At least Sev is happy. Why aren't I? I have the man I always wanted, two beautiful children....
But Voldemort is still alive. If I had been brave enough to die for Harry, maybe he wouldn't be. The only reason I'm alive now is because I'm Sev's wife.
Lily Evans-Potter-Snape had these random moments of depression. They never lasted long. Sev made sure of that.
Her only regret was that she hadn't died for her son.
"Mommy, why don't we ever use that room for anything?"
She jumped. "Well, Elaine, that was my first child's room. He died when he was really little, and I miss him a lot. When I married your Daddy, he said we could leave it like it was. For memories."
"Ohhh."
"What was your first baby's name?"
"Harry," she whispered. "It was Harry James Potter."
There was a noise to her left. She turned quickly.
Severus stood there with their son Tom.
"Never," he said coldly, "mention the name Potter in this house."
She looked down. "I'm sorry, Sev. Today's been... one of those days."
He nodded and left.
"What's wrong with Daddy?"
"He and my first husband... didn't get along."
"Why not?"
Lily smiled. "Because they were both competing for the affection of one woman."
"What's af-ect-shun?"
Lily ruffled her daughter's black hair.
"You'll find out when you're older."
