ALVARO AND NATHALIE; wilson valley's it couple. everyone adored their relationship and wanted to be just like them. little did everyone know that in reality, the "it couple" they all knew and grew to love was actually the most toxic and unhealthy relationship.
since middle school, nathalie and alvaro were inseparable. they met in seventh grade and shortly after, began dating up until junior year when nathalie began to lose interest in alvaro and their relationship. alvaro thought everything was fine and was oblivious to the fact that nathalie no longer had the same feelings as him.
no matter what his friends told him, he didn't listen. he loved nathalie and believed she loved him back, even though they still hadn't said it to each other. alvaro was whipped, but he would never admit it. he really was in love with the girl.
nathalie had wanted to end things with alvaro for a bit, but had no idea how to. she tried breaking up with him multiple times, and each time, something would come up or something would be said and she would change her mind about breaking up with him.
she knew it was a toxic relationship, but the only reason she kept staying was because she knew she still had love for him deep down. her reason for wanting to break up with alvaro was because she "wanted something new" and "wanted to experience new things with other people".
to be fair, alvaro and nathalie had been dating for almost four years. they experienced everything together and were each other's first everything. could you blame nathalie for wanting a taste of something new?
nathalie and alvaro sat cross legged, facing each other while sitting on the bed in nathalie's room. "baby, listen to me. you didn't do anything wrong, okay? this is all me, all my fault." nathalie finally had the courage in her to spit these words out, and it felt, good. "i need to figure myself and my feelings out first. you were nothing but an amazing boyfriend to me, i promise you."
"we can fix this, nat. i'll do anything you want me to, just say the word." alvaro was at a loss for words. never did he think he would experience the feeling of heartbreak with this girl. alvaro thought he didn't have to worry about getting his heart broken by her. he thought they would get married, they even talked about it. "i just, i don't understand-" alvaro sighed, letting go of nathalie's hands and pulling the hood of his hoodie over his head before shoving his hands in his pocket.
"trust me, varo. there's nothing you can do right now. i need to fix myself first." nathalie tried her hardest not to cry. who wouldn't cry if they were in her position? she just ended a four year long relationship.
for so long, she had been wanting to end things, and once she finally did it's like she instantly wanted to take everything back. everything that came out of her mouth already and there was nothing to take back anymore. it was too late.
alvaro quickly got up off the bed, gently pushing nathalie's legs off of his. he grabbed his backpack from the corner of her room and without hesitation to look back at the girl left sitting on the bed, he whispered the three words he had been dying to say to her. "i love you."
nathalie heard the words come out his mouth but she didn't react. she watched as he jogged down the stairs of her empty house, and waited until she heard the click of the door downstairs shut. that's when she felt the tears rush down her face like a waterfall. nathalie felt numb, but she knew this was the right thing for her to do. breaking up with him was better than telling him she cheated on him, right?
and just like that, wilson valley's "it couple" was no longer together.
