So I wanted to do a Union J fanfiction, so here it is!

_____________________________________________________________

I sat in an uncomfortable chair, gazing out of the window, and onto the frozen, slippery runway outside. A long announcement kept repeating itself over the speakers, though I wasn’t listening.

Attention all, as a repeat of our earlier announcement, all incoming and outgoing flights have been cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. Flights are expected to be returning to an operating schedule in two days time, on December the twenty-sixth, and back to regular operating schedules with scheduled flights within a week of that date. Thank you all and on behalf of Heathrow International Airport, we are sorry for any inconvenience.”

I felt numb. Not only because of the cold, but because I was supposed to be sunbathing in the Bahamas right now, with my family. I had called my mother only moments ago, and was met by her frantic voice.

“Emma! Where are you? Are you okay? The airport is telling us that your flight’s been cancelled!” she had said.

“I’m okay. All flights are cancelled. So I won’t be able to make it out there.” I had replied, trying to keep my voice happy.

“Oh no! We can’t have Christmas without you, darling! It wouldn’t be right! It wouldn’t feel right!”

“Just enjoy the vacation, Mum! You and Dad have been planning this trip for two years! Have fun…think of it as a second honeymoon or something!”

“But—“

“No buts Mum! Have fun! I love you! Come back in a week like you planned. I’ll get a ticket refund.”

Mum had seemed to realize I wasn’t going to change my mind, and sighed. We exchanged a few more words, and then the conversation had ended. I hadn’t thought about anything when I told my mum that I’d be okay, and now that I was looking at all of my options, I was royally screwed.

I’ll explain why. I had taken a taxicab to the airport, instead of my car because the piece of junk I owned had decided to break down, and was currently in the shop getting fixed. It had happened last minute and I had used most of the money I was going to bring to the airport on the airport taxi bill. I hadn’t thought something like this would happen, so I hadn’t thought to bring any extra money.

I couldn’t call anyone because every single one of my friends were on vacation at an exotic location somewhere in the world, and all my relatives lived in America.

So I was now stuck in a lonely airport for two days. Bloody fantastic. Deciding to grab some food with the eight pounds I had left, I left the rough chair that I was sitting on, and holding my jacket and purse close to my body, made my way to the small bakery.

There were many people milling around it, all waiting to buy food. I walked to the end of the line, and began what would surely be a long wait to the front. Thank God the airport had an amazing heating system, or else I’d be even more aggravated than I already was.

“You look quite angry with the world.”

The voice appeared out of nowhere, and before I saw the speakers face, I began speaking.

“You don’t say? I’ve only just been told I’ll be spending Christmas in an airport instead of the fuc—“ I suddenly stopped speaking when I saw whom I was speaking to.

It was an insanely attractive boy. He had wavy brown hair, and the prettiest eyes I had ever seen.

“Sorry to startle you! I’m George, George Shelley.” He said, smiling.

“Oh. Sorry for yelling at you! I’m Emma. Emma Collins.” I replied, feeling a blush work its way up my neck.

“Haha, it’s okay. So where were you supposed to be heading?” he asked curiously.

“Bahamas. My parents are already there, and I had to stay back to do some training.” I replied.

“That’s terrible! Do you at least have someone to stay with? And training for what?”

“I’m a swimmer. I’m on scholarship at London University for swimming. And nope. Everyone’s in another country.” I said.

“So you’re spending Christmas alone?” He asked, his eyes wide.

“Yup. In a airport.”

George’s eyes widened even more, and a sympathetic look crossed his face. Suddenly a thoughtful looked crossed his face, and he looked like a light bulb had just gone of in his head.

“You can stay at my place!” he exclaimed.

My head snapped up and I looked at him curiously as he continued to speak, “We were going to head to Paris for the holidays, my entire family, but we’re just getting a refund now. My Mum would murder me if she knew a pretty girl like you was staying in an airport alone for Christmas, and I didn’t offer for you to stay with us.”

“I just met you! I don’t think it would be right.”

“It’d be fun! Don’t worry, I have a brother and a sister and my parents are there too.”

I thought about my options. I could spend my holidays alone in an airport, or I could spend it with a cute boy in a warm house.

“Alright then.” I sighed, making it sound like it’d been a difficult decision, “I’ll come.”

“Great!” he said excitedly, “Let’s go!”

“I need food first.” I said, giving him a duh look, “Don’t you? You were in line anyways.”

“Oh yeah,” he said, looking embarrassed.

I laughed softly and smiled up at him. He was really cute.

We got to the front of the line, and I purchased a small coffee and a muffin before paying. I saw George buy a coffee, and was shocked; most people in England tended to hate coffee! They preferred the taste of tea and everyone I knew was disgusted by my coffee obsession since they claimed it tasted like burn, if that made any sense.

“You like coffee?” I asked as he led me to where his family was waiting.

“I have a slight obsession. I actually work at Costa Coffee Shop actually.” He admitted, chuckling lightly.

“I’ve never met someone that’s obsessed with coffee like I am.” I stared at him in awe, “I think I’ve found my soul mate.”

I started laughing and he did too. We continued walking to the terminal where his family was waiting for him. I spotted four people standing by a bunch of suitcases, talking and laughing with each other.

The older woman, who I assumed to be his mum, seemed notice that we were heading toward us, and said something to the others, who also turned to look.

“Who’s this?” the younger girl asked curiously.

“This is Emma.” George said.

“Hello!” I said, cheerfully.

“Mum, can I talk to you?” George asked, and his mother nodded.

They walked out of our hearing range, and I was left with three strangers. How awkward.

“I’m Will.” The older boy said. He looked to be in his early twenties.

“I’m Harriet.” The teenage girl said, smiling.

“I’m Harry, their father.” The man said, shaking my outstretched hand.

“I’m Emma.” I said, smiling.

A few more words were exchanged before Will returned with his mother. He nodded at me, signaling that his mother was perfectly fine with me staying with them.

“Emma is going to be spending Christmas with us!” she said, smiling happily.

Harry raised his eyebrows, but didn’t say anything about it, instead picking up his suitcase, “Well let’s go!”

So with that, we were off.
