Chapter 1 The Interdiction
So I have never done this before so I plane on using these story's to tell you about my life in musical theatre because I basically eat, breath, and sleep musical theatre. So this is my advice and experience on the stage. hope you enjoy. (this mainly for musical theatre kids especially ones just starting out.)Chapter 2 Auditions
So in performing the only thing that scares me more then opening night and tech week is auditions. This fear may not happen to every one but for me I have more of an audition fright then stage fright. The key to auditions is to be the most confident person in the room without being cocky. You have to perform with confidence in your voice. If it is a singing audition don't do that thing that we all have done when your like "this mite not sound good I have a cold." NO YOU DONT HAVE A COLD YOU ARE JUST DOING THAT SO THEY THINK YOU ARE BETTER THEN YOU REALLY ARE. Of course if you actually have a cold you can say I have a cold but don't tell them you have a cold when you don't. Also if the director ask you to do something do don't fight him/her because remember the audition starts the moment you walk through the door not just when you are performing. Another great tip for an audition is always know the show you are auditioning for (not just the part you want). This helps with cold reads and and if they randomly ask you to sing a song from the show it sounds better when you all ready know it. I am not saying know the whole script cover to cover but just have a general idea of what the play is about and listen to the big songs a couple of times. So I hope these tips will help you and good luck at your audition.Chapter 3 The Cast
Your cast will at one point become your family even if you go to your first rehearsal not knowing one person. Weather it happens on the first rehearsal or opening night at one point you will be able to tell them anything. In my first performance I didn't talk to any until opening night in the dressing room. That was three years ago and a lot of those people are still my close friends today. Now with every family there is the family drama and that goes for cast family's to. Backstage drama is the worst and it is so stressful you focus all of the energy that is suppose to be on stage on to the fights going on backstage. My point is is just stay away from it I will give you more tips on that later. In order to have a good performance you need to love and trust your cast because if you have to do a scene with someone you barley know the audience won't be able to feel the emotion between you two all they will feel is awkwardness. Even if you have to hate that person it is easer to hate some one when they are friend and they know you don't actually hate them. Like the play I am in know my close friend plays my daughter and in the play we have to fight a lot and it would be awkward to do that with someone I don't know. Even thought your cast will become very close remember that the worst thing to do is talk when you are not suppose to be talking. Yeah I know I sound like a teacher but it is true if you get cast a a lead an you can't get focused then they will most likely not cast you as a big parts any more because they think you can't handle it. Also most directors have connections with other directors and a lot of times they will see you have been in a play they will call the director and ask if you were good and focused. That is all I have to say about your cast.
