Chapter one
I sat in my empty bedroom and looked out the window. I sighed, it was dark and cloudy outside, hiding the moon, and causing it to be even darker than it already is. It matched my mood perfectly, gloomy and upset. "See? Even the weather thinks we shouldn't move!" I groaned out loud to no one in particular.
"Mikaela!" I heard my mom call from downstairs, "Get to bed now, we're leaving first thing in the morning for our new house!" she chimed excitedly.
"Sure Mom," I called down glumly, then added to myself, "Whatever." I turned around and dragged my feet slowly to my bed, one of the few pieces of furniture that was left in my house, and flopped down onto it. I buried my face into my unsuspecting pillow and screamed. It did make me feel better, but it didn't change the fact that we were moving from the house I had lived in since I was two years old. I switched off my light, curled up into a little ball, and hugged my blankets to my chest. I single tear rolled down my left cheek before I could stop it, stupid tears.

-Next Day-
I woke up just in time to see the early morning sun rise and climb over the hilltops and light up the refreshed world. It's waking light peeked through my blinds and poured warmth onto my face. "Go away sun! I don't want this day to come yet," I complained grumpily as I pulled my blanket over my face.
"Honey! Get up. I have some. . . slightly burnt toast for you," My mother called up to me with all the cheerfulness of the new morning, "Sorry, I packed our toaster last night. Not smart!" my mother chuckled.
'MOM! WHY?!' I said in my mind "Coming Mom!" I called down. I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs to get my. . . Toast. I walked slowly into the smoky kitchen. I covered my face with my hand, 'Wow, Mom! planning on burning the house down before we move?' I thought. "Um. . . Where's my toast?" I asked out loud.
"Right there," my mom pointed to a pile of black crumbs.
I just stared at it for a second, ". . .I should get in the shower. . ."
"Good idea!" Mom chimed.
I smiled to her before heading back upstairs and escaping to my bedroom where I grabbed my clothes and descended into the bathroom.

-At the new house-
I stared through the car window and thought about my old house until my Mom interrupted my daydreams.
"There's the house!" She squealed and pointed to a huge, beautiful, two story, white house, with flower filled gardens, and long green vines climbing up the columns. My eyes followed the columns up to see a huge white marble balcony.
My jaw dropped and my eyes widened, practically exploding, out of my face. "That's humongous!" I exclaimed in total shock.
"Not that one, silly" My mom giggled and moved her finger to an old, two story building, with crusted light blue paint peeling down the side of the wall.
"Oh. . . it -it's a pretty. . . blue!" I tried to sound less disappointed than I really was.
I failed.
"Oh, it's not that bad," My mom smiled at me, trying to cheer me up, "Just wait till you see the inside!"
'Oh, I can wait' I thought, but just smiled at her instead.
My mom pulled into the bumpy, uneven drive-way. Instantly she flew out of the car, ran to the passenger side, and dragged me out before I could even blink. "Come on, come on," she demanded happily. We made our way down the long sidewalk that led to the old windowed door. I looked down to see that half of the grass in the yard was dead. Wait. . . those were weeds. I was so busy looking down I didn't even notice the stairs leading to the porch until it was to late. KABOOM! (Okay, maybe that was a little too dramatic, but whatever).
"Oh, careful Honey, there's stairs there." my mother mumbled, digging through her purse, not really paying attention.
'Gee, thanks Mom I "didn't" notice that.' I thought, to myself. After getting up I walked to my Mom who was still digging through her purse. "Whatcha doing?" I asked unsure.
"Looking for the keys, do you have them?" Mom asked.
"Er. . . you left them in the ignition" I pointed to the car.
"Ahhh! It's self locking!" she cried, and ran over to the car, "Oh no, oh no, oh no!" she panicked and tugged on the door handle. "THE WHOLE DAY IS RUINED! I WOULD CALL YOUR FATHER FOR THE EXTRA KEY BUT HE DOESN'T GET OFF WORK TILL SEVEN. AND Aunt Lucy? SHE LIVES IN FLORIDA! OOH! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!?!?!?!"
'Wait, why would Aunt Lou even have a key?! Oh well.' "Mom? Mom? MOM?! YOU HAVE A EXTRA CAR KEY!!!" I yelled past her screaming. Just then she unexpectedly stopped.
"I just remembered, I have a extra car key!" She smiled calmly.
'She said that like NOTHING happened JUST A FEW FREAKING SECONDS AGO!!! What the hay?!'
I face-palmed as my mother walked past me. "Mickie? What's wrong dear?"
I let out a long, slightly dramatic sigh, "Nothing Mom," I replied.
"Well then come on," My mom giggled excitedly like a little girl, "lets go see our new house."
