Buffalo Run

It was November 18th 1976. Twisting Hills watched the last stone be removed. It was time for his first buffalo hunt.
"You ready?" Asked Flying bird his dad." Don't worry about Swinging Waves. He always teases the people on the first buffalo hunt!". " I won't." Replied Twisting Hills. He was to excited to be on his first buffalo hunt to be worried about anything. Evan the White men. He quickly walked into his tepee to tell Swaying Heather to have fun. "Hurry up Twisting Hills! Buffalo don't dawdle like you." Teased Swinging Waves. Finally mounted his horse Tail Wind and followed behind Rushing Water. About 5 minutes later they reached a pack of buffalo. "Remember don't kill all the buffalo." Reminded Chasing Crow this buffalo expeditions leader " If they never reproduce we'll run out of buffalo. Now have your bows and arrows ready!"! Everyone shoved into line behind Chasing Crow, dismounted, and sneaked toward the buffalo from protection of the leaves. Quietly in the grass they crawled toward the buffalo. Trying not to be noticed or a heavy buffalo foot would trample them. Flying Bird motioned to go a little to the right. He slid barely to the right. He was about to to shoot his arrow when he saw the buffalo run toward them. Everybody got up and ran toward their horse. Twisting hills helped his dad onto Tail wind who had to gallop all the way back to the tepees. "Where's all the buffalo you should've came back with?" Asked Swaying Heather "You must've killed at least one!"! "Well" answered Flinging Wing " The buffalo were startled from something from behind.". "How do you know that."! She pointed over toward Frozen Ice's tepee. Crushing Rocks lied unconscious in front of the tepee. "Crushing Rocks will be okay!" Announced Chief Frozen Ice " His leg is the only injury. Now we must thank our gods that no others were hurt. But the buffalo are stampeding and we must evacuate!". On his order all the tepees were brought down and being carried. Night Fury led the way with Frozen Ice and Rushing Water at his heels. At the end was High Peak and Swirling Storm lifting Crushing Rocks on their shoulders. Running Deer was the fastest child in Satwixton. Twisting Hills always tried to catch her,but he couldn't. Trying to get away from the buffalo High Peak and Swirling Storm turned a bit to the right. The buffalo ran right past them. Then they saw what was chasing the buffalo. It was the white men. Frozen Ice had the tepees set up immediately close to a large hill. Slashing Smell led the charge against the white men. Twisting Hills stayed behind a tree and whipped out a shot once in a while. "Retreat!" Called Frozen Ice. Twisted Hills was about to go to the hills when he realized it was a fake retreat. He whipped out his bow and started to fire shots to the white men's back. As the white men fled back to their home the Satwixton started placing their tepees and gathering the stones to start the new buffalo hunt countdown. In the meantime Twisting Hills and High Peak rode their horses off to find some meat. On the way they chatted about the recent drama and what it was like to be behind and in the middle, also not lifting Crushing Rocks. "When Swirling Storm and I saw the white men we were so scared! Exclaimed High Peak " I thought i was going to be shot in the back or get trampled by buffalo!". They also discussed when they might be back. "I dunno" Said High Peak calmly "Probably today or tomorrow. Their bound to capture or kill us sometime. I'm not sure they will allow us up north so spend your time happily you have alive. Not worrying.". "Good point" replied Twisting Hills " I've never thought about it that way.". Days past, then weeks. Twisting Hills began to think they would never come. But he was wrong!
