Her wavy golden brown hair flew in the wind as she ran, almost towards the finish line. I was a couple inches behind her, and I could smell her strawberry-scented shampoo. Stop, you're getting distracted. I focused my eyes on the finish line, and willed all my force, and sprinted as fast as I could. I could hear Emma whine my name, and I smirked. I turned my head to see Isabel catching up to me.
"Give it up, Jonah," Emma said between breaths.
"In your dreams!" I laughed and ran even faster, finally crossing the finish line. Shortly after, Emma came running, and past the finish line, giving me a death glare.
Everyone started crowding around me, as I was given a large trophy for first place. 3rd time in a row! Poor Emma though, she's still glaring at me with her 2nd place medal clenched in her fist. I pushed my way through the crowd over to Emma.
I scratched the back of my neck and said, "Good job, Emma."
She stared at my trophy and back to my eyes. "I'm going to beat you next time, Rider."
"We're on a last name basis now!?" I said, completely surprised by her stubborness. I mean, just because she didn't win first place, doesn't mean she has to be all mean about it.
Emma didn't respond, she just quickly turned around and got on her bike and started pedaling away.
"Wow, she's so mean,"
I turned around to face Valerie, the girl who's always trying to get my attention. People have always been telling me that she's been in love with me since the fourth grade. FOURTH GRADE. She's never asked me out, and I honestly don't like her like that.
"Yep, that's Emma. She's just mad that she didn't get first place." I said, still staring at where Emma left.
"Anyways, you did really good. I was cheering you on the whole time." Valerie said.
"Thanks, that was nice of you." I said, finally turning around to face Valerie. She was wearing tight skinny jeans and a pink shirt.
"No problem!" Valerie said, with a smile.
I politely smiled back, and waved bye as I got my skateboard and rode home.
