Possesses monsters from other dimensions under his skin (most often appearing as tentacles emerging from his torso). He is deceased, but no information about his death is given. Many fans believe that the monsters inside had killed him, or think it happened while on a mission. There is a memorial statue of him located in front of the Academy. Even though he's been dead since before the start of the series, he's been portrayed as a member of The Umbrella Academy, appearing as his statue counterpart, in visions, or with Klaus since he has the ability to talk to the deceased. Since octopuses eat themselves under stress, there’s also a theory that Ben could’ve died that way, or by suicide. He can connect with Klaus physically, lending him his ability for a moment.
Ben’s spirit manifests during the “Hotel Oblivion” storyline, appearing before his brother Klaus in the hospital after saving him from an overdose. It’s shown that the portion of his chest that held the monster’s tentacles is now an empty cavity, and is hinted by Ben and a scene later in the issue that the monster had escaped from its dimension. It’s also implied the Hotel Oblivion wasn’t just made to be a super villain prison, but was actually a trap designed by Hargreeves to contain the beast, with the villains inside meant to be used as bait.
