It wasn't the fear of rejection or knowing that either that person would be your soulmate or leave you. It wasn't waking up with your eyes way too puffy to open or trying to hide the "scratches" on your arm or the dried tears layered on your cheeks. It wasn't the crushing pain in your stomach and the lack of air in your lungs as you watched his smile widen and yours repress. It was the man that was almost a shadow, never there to help you up when you fall or wipe away your tears. Never being near you for longer than a blink. Never watching you grow into a woman. Never calling you beautiful. It was receiving no love from the man who created you, your father.
