OVER THE COURSE of the next few days, the duo had gotten closer, and started trusting each other more and more. They were both surprised that they had started to become allies when all they wanted to do when they first got here was to kill one another. It just proved how mush isolation and only having one person to be there for you, can change your perspective.

They had walked and walked for so long that both felt like passing out, so Hope suggested taking a break seeing as they seemed to be getting nowhere.

Clarke had nodded and once he laid down, he almost immediately fell asleep, his arm under his head acting as a pillow. He was curled into a ball, and it was kinda funny to Hope seeing as Clarke was a really tall man curled like a baby. But, she also found it adorable, and she couldn't tear her blue eyes way from his soft features.

When he's sleeping, it's like he no longer has to worry about his father, or the fact that they're stuck in a never ending darkness. He's safe and he has someone by his side now.

Sadly, while Hope was seeing his soft features while he was sleeping, he was having a nightmare.

He was alone in Malivore, and he's screaming, shouting, and searching for Hope. She wouldn't leave him, would she?

Who was he kidding? They weren't friends, so why in the hell would she stay with him when they are literally getting nowhere. Maybe she figured that being on her own was better than sticking with someone who could betray her.

But, that's the thing. Would he betray her? He actually liked her and even though their relationship — or whatever the hell it was — started off rocky, they relied on each other. They needed each other to survive. If it wasn't for Hope, he would be toast, literally. And if it wasn't for him, she would be snake bait. They needed each other in more ways than one. Alone, they would probably go crazy. Alone, they wouldn't want to continue because what would be the point?

All of a sudden, something beamed down on him and he shielded his eyes before looking him. "No..." he trailed off as he saw his father's face staring down at him with such hatred and disappointment that it made him want to curl in a ball and die. "Father?" Throughout his hundreds of years on Earth, all he has ever wanted was the approval and love of his father, the only person he cared about.

"You are a failure!" Malivore screamed at him and his breath knocked Clarke back, his feet skidding across the black ground. "You are an abomination! You are nothing but a disappointment! Why did I ever create you?!"

"You're nothing, Clarke," a feminine voice came from behind him and he turned around just in time for Hope's smaller hands to come in contact with his neck. He began choking as she squeezed his neck. His dark eyes stared into her blue ones which were narrowed and full of disgust. "You think I'm your friend?" She scoffed and let out s malicious chuckle. "I would never be friends with a mud man." She tilted her head and squeezed his neck tighter. "Once a mud man, always a mud man." She dug her fingers into his neck and pulled back. There was no longer skin on his neck, only mud.

"No!" Clarke shouted and covered his neck with his hand, shaking his head as tears gathered on his dark eyes. "Please!" He turned around to stare at his father's face. "I did everything for you! I was the perfect son, the perfect agent..." Tears skidded down his cheeks. Once the tears rolled down his face, his skin melted, and what was left was a line of mud. "Why are you doing this to me?!" He sobbed.

"Because you are pathetic," Hope said from behind him and once he turned around, he saw her eyes glowing a golden color. "And pathetic people do not deserve to live." And just like that, she pounced on him.

He sat up, gasping for her, and his eyes came in contact with a blurry blob in front of him. On instinct, fear and anger, he wrapped his hand around the person's neck, straddled and strangled them until they were turning purple.

"Clarke!" Hope's voice filled his head and he paused for a second and looked down to see Hope underneath him, clawing at his hands, and almost passing out. "Please!"

"Hope!" He shouted back in surprise and jumped away from her, scrambling backwards until his back hit a tree. "I — I don't... I don't know—" He was gasping for air and trying to find the right words, but nothing. All he was, was a sobbing heap.

"Clarke?" Hope murmured and slowly approached him like he was a wild animal. "Everything is fine." She gently grabbed his face and wiped away his tears. "I'm right here. I'm not going to let anything hurt you. I promise."

"I'm sorry," Clarke cried out and buried his head in her chest much like a child would. "I didn't mean to."

"It's okay." She ran her fingers through his curly hair, and started humming a sob her dad used to sing to her. "I'm here and nothing is ever going to touch you."
