The London Underground was almost empty. Which only ever happened around twice a day, at stupidly early o'clock or - as Colette liked best - stupidly late at night when nearly everyone was asleep or just about.

Her train wasn't due for another 30 minutes but She didn't mind in the least.
Colette was a writer. Though not her job she liked to think of herself as a writer because she loved writing more than anything.
It was one of things she had always done and always planned on doing, even if only for herself.

In the tube station she was as one might say, like a "kid in a candy store"
She had a game she'd play in the time she spent waiting for her train home and it was very simple.
For every person who caught her eye on the way home she'd give them a reason why they were out so late.
In the past they had even inspired poems or stories of their own

Never wanted to try and guess the REAL reason.
Far too boring.
She would make up wild stories about murder, plots of thievery and affairs. Much more entertaining that way.

There had been plenty on the way home from the theatre but the train station was, unfortunately empty.
So there she was, nearly one o'clock in the morning sitting at the trains station by herself notebook in hand, tired from stage door and her hazel eyes scanning for any sign she wasn't alone.

It was freezing in the tube station so she was glad to have her blonde curly hair to tuck into her scarf.

Colette was a aware of the noise of trains coming and going on other platforms
But also became aware of the noise of footsteps and they sounded close.

She perked up considerably at the promise of someone to join her on the station.

"Finally"
she let out with a breathy sigh,
her breath swirling as a hazy grey mist above her eyes in the already foggy London air.
