It was amazing how quickly I had fallen asleep considering how much was going through my mind. When Silver woke me up in the morning I wasn’t nearly as tired as I had been the past few days. I was not nearly as excited to meet this new mentor because I knew I’d be learning about death and that was not a subject I want to learn on. We exited the tent like we had for my other two mentors but this time is was Jake standing there. “This is Jake, the mourner. You talk to him, I’ll be in the tent.” She ran to the tent faster than normal seeming to want to avoid whatever Jake had to say. “I’m Jake, the mourner. I know death isn’t easy to talk about but it happens and it’s something you need to learn.” He looked down and took a seat on the ground gesturing for me to sit across from him and so I did. Jake took a deep breath and began to speak “the legion has had many tragic deaths. Mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. People have died and you are the only person who can stop these deaths.” I looked down before I spoke up “how am I to stop deaths from happening when nobody can tell me how? How am I supposed to fight when I don’t even completely know my enemy? I want to stop F.E.A.R. but I need to learn how.” I stood up with tears forming in my eyes. A helpless feeling filled my heart. I knew I had to defeat F.E.A.R. but I had no clue how. It was like everything was balancing on me but I was simply the tip of a pen to balance to universe on. “Eve,” Jake spoke “you may wish to gain this knowledge from me but I simply can not teach it to you. In due time, everything will be clear to you.” Hearing those words from him were what forced the tears in my eyes to roll down my face. “When will that time come? When will I learn? If I really am the chosen one then why can’t you tell me?” I could not help but shout. He stood up, looked me in the eyes, and said “Eve, I am not the one to teach you what has to be done. It is nobody’s job to teach you what to do, it is simply our job to help you realize your destiny. The sooner you accept that you need to learn on your own the sooner you can see clearly.” Jake began to walk away but I stopped him “Jake, wait.” I looked down “I’m sorry for yelling at you. He looked at me and simply said “Don’t apologize to me, apologize to yourself.” After saying that he walked off and left me thinking. ‘Maybe I should listen to what everyone has told me, maybe it’s some sort of puzzle’ I thought to myself and walked back into the tent like I was always supposed to do after training.
