It was the month of June and we were halfway from winter. The leaves have fallen with almost the entire trees left to stand still with no flying wings. The color of the earth was engraved by the dusts moving through the thin air covering our eyesight against most visions.
On a sunday afternoon after so much deliberation and chitchat with friends and family, Joseph was a tall young man in his early twenties whom was studying in the institution of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University who went to spend the Sallah break with his aunt. They sat nearly all day in front of the house on a long chair alongside his cousin friend Elijah who was the opposite of his height. His aunt Eve sat on her doorstep with her daughter Helen. Helen was a young lady of nearly the same age as Elijah and Joseph. Joseph and Helen were believed to have shared a bond that made them regard each other as special.
After a long conversation between them, Joseph who was wearing a long black shirt picked himself up to get a bucket for his bathe when his phone rang in his pocket.
It was his Junior brother Abraham from home whom do not call so often. After some thoughts, then picked the call and heard the news that left him half dead and barely even human. It was the death of his other brother Isaac.
Isaac was the immediate brother of Joseph whose description almost fits that of his brother. He was a good looking young man of halfway age to forty. He was coming home for the break on that same afternoon from school when he met his end in a car accident.
Joseph on hearing the news forgot where he was or what he was doing and was trying to find himself from the confusion he had been placed into. He walked out of the house without a word and was wandering in the city streets not knowing where he was going or what he was doing. All that came to his mind was the sound of Abraham on phone that Isaac was dead. He couldn't process the data he was given and later on found himself sitting on a heap of waste gabbage. He finally came back to his senses and tried to call on his mother but unfortunately couldn't get to her. That was it he concluded as he knew now his beloved brother was gone.To be continued...
