Prologue

 You know that moment when life turns against you and all your fears seem to scare you at once? Well, I know, one day everything is normal with my flawed life but the next day everything suddenly changes without any explanation and then it seems like the ground is crumbling and there's nowhere to stand...My name is Elphen, my adoptive mother had a certain fascination for elves and other mystical beings and thought it would be "a name as magical as your smile", something she used to tell me whenever I was involved in school, the girls used to call me a scary creature or the crazy one from fairy tales. I miss Jenny, she was the only mother I knew and loved.Right in the beginning my life is already tragic. My biological parents were murdered with spears pierced through the body on an ordinary spring night. They were famous and well known historians, they kept several objects like the spears used at the crime scene inside the house. The culprit was never arrested, there was no clue, absolutely nothing.My Aunt Jenny, my mother's sister and my foster mother found the two of them in a pool of blood in the living room and immediately rushed upstairs to see if I was all right. She used to say I was lying in my crib and crying in a panic as if I felt something was wrong. When it all happened I was only three days old and my parents hadn't even decided what name they would put on my birth certificate.Jenny and her husband adopted me. Klaus is a unique father, always present, caring and understanding, a certain calm and rational person. Jenny on the other hand was intuitive, funny and energetic, a successful romantic. When I turned nine, she was hospitalized with advanced cancer, and no matter how hard working she was, she suffered from the disease and was taken from me the same day I turned eleven. It was the worst gift given to me in my life, I always blame myself for not having helped her and for not being able to do something to make her feel better.Today is my birthday, I turned 16. Everything reached the last straw and I simply couldn't bear to carry a huge weight on my chest whose pain was unbearable.
