A/N: Ok guys first chapter of my first ever published fanfic. Tell me what you think. Feedback and critique are welcome! Sorry, it's short(ish), but it'll get better
As long as Libra could remember, Remus Lupin had taken care of her after her father couldn't. Her last name meant nothing to her, and no one commented. Libra Black, Sirius Black's daughter, by adoption, but still his daughter. Her first year at Hogwarts went tremendously well. Kind of. Her only friends were Fred and George Weasley. Which was strange, because she was a Slytherin. She knew Weasley's hated Slytherins. When she asked they said, "You don't seem like one."
Her second year went far less gloriously. The Slytherins all knew she was from the House of Black. That was also when it was discovered that Libra was a Metamorphmagus. Many of the professors were shocked to see an angry Libra with a duck's bill for a nose running around after that. McGonagall had to calm the twelve down and help her turn her nose back to normal.
Naturally, Libra's third year got more interesting. Harry Potter arrived with the newest Weasley brother. That was also the year Draco arrived. And darling Neville. Bless his soul, Libra couldn't believe that poor Neville was her friend. The same couldn't be said for Harry or Hermione. Or most of the Gryffindors now that she thought about it. Good job Potter, you stopped Voldemort, again... she thought bitterly.
Her fourth year, Ginny and Luna arrived. The Ravenclaw girl somehow saw something in Libra that interested her. Ginny however immediately disliked Libra. Dislike was maybe a bit of an understatement. She downright despised her. No one knew why seeing as Libra and Ginny have known each other since Libra met Fred and George. But some of the rumours about their rivalry was along the lines of female pettiness. Or just general envy on Ginny's part. But most just believed it was because Libra was known as "Black Heart" through the entire school. She came off as cold, ruthless, and every bit a Slytherin. She didn't care about Ginny being taken, at all. She didn't even celebrate her safe return.
Now it was Libra's fifth year. Sirius Black was out of Azkaban and all Hell had broken loose. The Gryffindors hated her more than ever, Ron didn't exactly trust her. Hermione had tried to be nice to Libra, but that just went down the drain as soon as she made the connection between Sirius and Libra. The Slytherins whose families had been Death Eaters started paying more attention to the girl, and that caused problems. She was being called a blood traitor under different contexts by the students who supported The Order, or in this case Dumbledore.
"BLOOD TRAITOR!" A Gryffindor yelled at her.
"Shut it Smith! No one cares what you think!" She hissed back before running down the stairs.
The Weasley twins ran after her, shoving others out of their way. Libra ignored their calls and jumped the last few steps to the ground and swept into the dungeon. "Libra! Wait up, what's wrong? Why are you being called a blood traitor?"
She whipped around and looked at her two best friends before taking a deep breath. "My dad is Sirius Black. And everyone thinks I'm in league with a man, I haven't seen for twelve years, and am trying to kill Harry."
Fred stared at Libra dumbfounded. The ginger blinked slowly. She looked at George precariously. The twins opened and closed their mouths a couple of times before George spoke. "So, Libra, the girl who was raised by Professor Lupin, is the daughter of the most dangerous escaped criminal? And we just found out now..."
"So that's why you flinch when they glare at you?" Fred asked.
She could feel her temper rising and Libra glared at them. "Our first year here, they said 'Black, Libra' and you just made the connection now? How daft are you, I mean really?"
Libra gasped slightly once she realized what she said. Hurt and betrayal flickered across her friends' faces. Never once in her entire life had Libra called Fred or George stupid. Not on purpose or laced with malice at least. If she did, it was always in a joking tone. Calling them idiots for being caught. but her tongue slipped and now Libra waited for her best friends to say something in retaliation.
"I see how it is Libra."
"Don't trust us enough to tell us who your dad is?"
"Afraid we'll turn away from you?" She shook her head.
"We wouldn't have. We're not like that."
"But now, I think we've seen you're true colours. Think we're stupid? For trusting you, thinking you were our friend, yeah. We were."
"Freddie, let's go." George cast Libra a saddened look before walking away.
"I didn't mean it... I'm sorry!" she cried softly before stalking into the Slytherin Common Room. Libra kicked over one of the chairs and her hair suddenly started changing colours. Draco looked up at her and his eyes widened in shock before he paled. Pansy started sneering before Draco elbowed her sharply.
The Slytherins paused what they were doing and one poor first year quickly found himself being hit with the nearest pillow to Libra. Marcus Flint sauntered in closely behind Libra and started smirking. He had been one of the people Fred and George pushed aside when they went running after their friend. He had witnessed everything and walked slowly up to the fifth year girl.
The entire common room fell silent and held their breaths. The air was still and even some of the student's pets (Like Libra's cat Loki) found hiding spots, or ran upstairs into their owner's rooms. Marcus poked Libra on the nose and whispered "Once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin. How's it feel to be disowned by your precious Weasleys?"
Libra hissed softly and slapped Marcus before walking upstairs. She slammed her room's door and sat on her bed. Quickly grabbing a quill, ink, and piece of paper, Libra wrote to Remus. She attached her note to Loki's collar and told him to find the professor. I'm nothing like my dad. She thought bitterly. They have no proof that I'm like him. I'm not even his daughter by blood.
