Few Months Later
" The rumors surrounding our lives are about to be proven as the U.S ARMY are deciding if recruits will be necessary. Even if it's just for precaution. " The man reporting is standing right beside the Brooklyn Bridge, holding a mic and the cameraman is right at his front filming everything.
My family and I were having a good night in, even Charles is here, we ate and then went to the living room to watch some TV, a bad idea. I can not even imagine my father, my brother...Ethan being obligated to apply to go to the military, my brother is already there but he is not a combat soldier. For all that I know you can only be discharged if you have health problems, but we are talking about a possible war.Deciding I had enough for the night I go upstairs to my bedroom, putting everything in place for tomorrow morning, organizing my backpack, checking to see if all the homework is done and lastly choosing the outfit.
"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close."
This is Paul Neruda's love letter, actually, a sonnet, the last one in the book, isn't how this thing called love works? Every time I talk to my parents to ask them about how they realized they were in love they never seem to know the real reason, it's always the small gestures or you just wake up and the next thing you know is that you are in love.
Simple as that, with no problems or pride just like Neruda said.Everyone in school was talking about the news we had the blast to get on the TV yesterday, especially the boys, they were so frenetic, more than usual, worrying about their futures. The Cold War is now part of our daily life and I don't appreciate that the conflict between the USA and the Soviet Union is always on the news.
" Hey, " Someone touches my shoulder. " Are you all alright?"
"Hi, Miranda. " I said closing my locker and hugging her. " I'm fine. "
She's didn't look calm at all completely the opposite. I almost forget that she and Daniel Lockwood are dating, yes, I figured out why she was so excited to go to that party, she slept in my house that night and we had a small sleepover, at the party, he asked her to be his girlfriend. He is actually a really good guy and treats her well, I support them so much. No wonder she's worried if this thing happens Daniel is going to the army as well.
We both made our ways to the first class, is Monday so art class here we go, needing to part ways as we enter the classroom as we both head to our respective partners in arts.I smiled with my eyes as I get to the table, he only says a stuffy "hi" and continue to think whatever he was thinking about before.
As time went by all the students came in and not so long after Mrs. White came in too." Good morning. I know the news is nerve-wracking, but we need to stay positive and focus on our class today. I want everybody to sit facing your partner. Alright, let's go! "
Taking Mrs. White's word with my whole heart the next I do is take a deep breath and let the air goes out as I open my mouth. She's right, being negative is only going to attract negative feelings end these are not good at all. As everyone starts to run around to do what the teacher asked, my partner, on the other hand, is traveling inside his mind.
