Shelby's POV

Lillian walked out of the bathroom and stopped short. Her mouth fell open.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, her voice full of surprise.

I snapped out of shock and opened my mouth to retort. But she just stomped out of the bathroom.

I stood there in confusion thinking about what had just happened.

Suddenly the bell rang snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Shit, I'm late!" I yelled to no one at all.

I rushed out and grabbed my books from my locker.

I then ran to Math class and burst through the door.

Mr. Hawker turned to me with the grin that was usually on his face.

"What made you so late, hmmm?" He joked and shot me a wink.

I blushed while the class laughed. Mr. Hawker was one of the cool teachers. And he managed to make Honors Algebra extremely easy. Not that I would need it, Math is my favorite subject. I'm not a nerd, it just makes sense to me.

During the class I thought about what just happened. Why would Lillian be crying anyways? She has the perfect life.

Math flew by and while I was walking to English I felt sharp nails grab my arm.

"Meet me by the gym after school." A voice hissed in my ear. I nodded knowing instantly who the voice belonged to. Lillian then walked away quickly.

Thankfully I walked into English on time. Ms. McHardy wasn't the nicest teacher there was. Honestly, she wasn't that bad. She just hated me because I hated English. What's the point in writing down your feelings if you can draw something which gets rid of them in half the time.

During English I decided to draw.

I started drawing the face of a girl. When I finished I looked at it happily. Her hand was covering her eyes. And her mouth was twisted into a pained smile. If you looked really closely you could make our her eyes under her hands, tears flowing from them. I really don't know what inspired the drawing, it just happened.

After English I had study hall, which I used for homework. Though, truthfully, all I did was think about what Lillian was going to say to me.

Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, the last bell rang. I sprinted out of class and to my locker. Quickly I shoved all of my books into my bag and ran outside. Running, I shoved a couple of people out of the way.

I reached my destination and stopped, panting. Looking around I saw I was alone. Lillian was most likely running late.

Behind the gym is a sketchy place to meet, though thats probably why Lillian chose it, no one would think she would ever be here. It's usually the hangout spot for kids to smoke either actual tobacco or much more.

Today though, none of those kids were here. The area was desolated and the only sounds were the screech of sneakers from the volleyball practice inside the gym.

I sat down and decided to draw while waiting for Lillian. to come. I was halfway through drawing the weeds that were choking my beautiful rose when I heard footsteps. I looked up and saw Lillian had finally arrived.

I shove my stuff back into my bag and stand up. She walks up to me and looks me straight in the eye.

"What do you want?" She demands.

Confusion crosses my face and she must have seen it.

"What do you want to keep your mouth shut?" She says like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

I stand there in shock. I just found her crying in the bathroom and all she cares about is me not telling anyone?

"I don't want anything!" I tell her.

She rolls her eyes. "Oh please, spare me the heroics, what do you want?"

I thought about this for a second. What could she give me that I want. I mean she could get any guy to like me. Even make me more popular. But there omens a voice shouting in my head what I really wanted.

I stepped closer to her, boldly. "I want to know why you were crying."

I knew it could be a stupid answer. Like maybe her boyfriend broke up with her. Or she lost an earring or something like that.

She narrowed her eyes. "Why do you want to know that? So you can tell everyone my secrets?"

I looked at her. "No, because I want to help you." I said honestly.

She stepped back, shocked. Then she looked at the ground, tears welling in her eyes. Once she composed her self she looked back up at me.

"Do you really want to know?" She asked.

I nodded my head.

Her next words shocked me.

"My mom is dying."

Didn't expect that? Or did you? Be honest!

And trust me, Lillian's life is a lot more complicated than that.

Sorry for the long wait and the shortness of the chapter!

Hope you liked it! :D
