I don't know about you, but first impressions are often entirely wrong.

Y/N pressed her tongue inside of her cheek, the lamp shining over her homework. She constantly tapped the end of her pen on her temple. Groaning, she put it down firmly.

Ring, ring!

Y/N's phone rang, the glimpse of her eye caught the caller name.

"Unknown ID."

She ignored it, not wanting to answer. She continued doing her homework until the caller rang again, and again, and again.

Fed up, she answered aggressively.

"What the f* do you want?!" She snapped, a gentle voice came over the phone. "Y/N, sweetie, don't yell at your grandmother..." she slapped her hand on her mouth before whimpering, "sorry, grandma, I thought you were someone else, did you change your phone number? I thought I had your contact." Her grandma chuckled weakly, "I did, your mother gave me a new phone." She coughs, Y/N bit her lip, "grandma, are you okay?"

"Yes, yes, a boy came to my house and gave me a homemade apple pie, he said he is your boyfriend, how cute and considerate he is. Shy and perfect for you, you never told me you had a boyfriend, Y/N," her grandma hummed delightedly.

"'Boyfriend'? You're crazy, grandma, I broke up with him," she snarled, thinking of the albino visiting her grandmother,

"Oh, but it is, the apple pie was delicious—" she cut off, a pause for a few seconds then a 'thump!' on the ground.

"Grandma?" No response. "Grandma!" She shouted worriedly, "I'm coming over!" She cried, putting on her jacket and hat.

As she was running, she cursed to herself, "I don't need another guardian watching over me!"

She slammed open the door, her grandma was laying there, motionless. She rushed over to her side and moved her gently, "grandma, you're exaggerating, it's not your time yet." Her tone was fighting to stay mature, but her voice was cracking.

The pie was sitting on the counter, she took a small lick of it. Wheat flour, apple sauce, sugar.

Y/N's grandma reached out her hand and stroked the girl's hair, "I will be your new guardian watching over you."

"I don't want a new guardian, I have plenty enough," she hisses, but her eyes were watery.

Her grandma croaked, "then I'll stay with you," she held Y/N's hand.

Y/N sniffled, "really?"

Her grandma nodded, but she stayed still a few seconds later.

Y/N cupped her mouth and closed her eyes, sobbing to herself.

"I'll stay with you."

"Y/N! Y/N!"

A voice snapped her to life, her eyes glimmering with dullness and sorrow.

Valt was poking her with his pencil, a worried look on his face.

"You look really skinny, Y/N. Did you eat anything during Thanksgiving break?" Valt whispers.

She tried to look as enthusiastic as she can, "oh, mhm! I had a huge feast with my relatives! It was super yummy!" A lie slithered out of her teeth.

"Oh, that sounds good! What did you eat?" Valt lightened up to hear she was doing well.

"Erm..." Y/N paused for a second before opening her mouth, "the usual things you eat on Thanksgiving. Turkey, mashed potatoes, you know!"

"Ohh, okay! But, Thanskgiving break was two days ago and you look like you starved yourself."

That's because she did, she locked herself in her room after her grandmother died, she never opened up to anyone about it, she only drank water and a few spoonfuls of porridge.

"Ah— I want to look my best after Thanksgiving break as if I ate tons of food and still keep my figure!" She lied once again.

"Haha, you always were determined, Y/N," Valt chuckles. He then brought up a topic he should've never spoke about.

"How's your grandma?"

Y/N's grip on her pencil got tighter, she gritted her teeth.

"She died 2 days ago."

The conversation went silent.

"Ah, I'm so sorry to hear that," he looked down on his desk, ashamed.

"I never figured out why she died, it looked like she had a stroke or heart attack but it's oblivious for that to happen, she was young, 57, in fact," Y/N shrugged.

"You said you had Thanksgiving, right? Did she eat anything?" Valt asked.

"No, she was on a diet," she shook her head.

"Allergic reactions?" Valt guessed.

"She didn't eat anything, again, the only thing she ate was the pie-" she stopped.

The pie.

The pie!

"My grandma is allergic to wheat flour, the pie was made out of wheat flour!" Y/N gasped.

"Pie? What pie?" Valt cocked his head to the side.

She snarled, "the pie from Shu."
