The Man

I saw a man. He was dressed in black and I couldn't see his face. He was covered in a shadow but I could tell that he was larger than me. Although I could not see his face I could see his bright blue eyes and demeanor look. I look around for my parents, not trusting this man. Don't talk to strangers I hear my mother saying to me.

I look away from the man, hoping he doesn't see me but I know he does. He doesn't move from his spot and doesn't say a word. I tried to walk away but my feet are glued in place. I couldn't see anything else. I look up at the sky and I see a full moon. It was bigger then I remember it and there were no stars out. I start to panic and that's when the man in shadows starts to move.

I heard him coming and all that I could think of is run. Run as fast as your legs could take you. Don't start crying; but I could already feel my tears running down my face. "I don't want to go." I say aloud. A car drove by and it lit up the area around me. I could see my body on the side of the road and I could see the mans face. It looked kinder in the light and not as scary.

"My sweet child, It's time to go. You have people waiting for you. Your grandpa says he wants to see your sweet face again." The man said as he held out a hand for me to take. "What about Mama and Dad?" I asked him. I didn't want to leave them just yet. It was Christmas and we were going to open gifts in the morning. "My sweet child, don't you remember? Your parents left you here. I've come to bring you home. It's cold out here and it's warm where your grandpa is."

"I... I remember... There was a fight and Mama was hit. Dad was yelling and grabbed me. He put my coat on me and my shoes. We drove for a long time and he pulled over. He grabbed me and told me to stay here until he comes back. I watched him go then... I saw you." I said as reality set in. I sank down to the ground and started to cry harder. I covered my face so the man couldn't see me cry.

"It's cold out here." The man said again, his face unchanged as his hand was still outstretched for me to take. I grabbed the mans hand and gave a sniffle. He was right, it was cold out here and I wanted to be warm again.
