I closed the gate to my house and walked up the long pathway to one out of many doors into my house. I slid open the door and closed it quietly, hoping my mom wouldn't hear my footsteps. I walked into the kitchen and searched the cupboards for snacks, the only thing I liked that I found were ginger bread cookies. I got a bowl out and dumped half the box of ginger bread cookies into the bowl and sat down at the kitchen table. I pulled out my phone and went on Instagram to see what was new, when I realized something was off. My mom was off today, and she usually leaves the TV on when she goes out.
"Mom?" I called out, but nobody answered. I put my phone in my pants pocket and left the kitchen. I walked into our living room -- our fireplace was still going for some reason, and then I realized the TV room was open.
"Mom? Are you home?" I called out, I slowly made my way Into the TV room, and what I found shattered my heart into a million of pieces.
My mom layed lifeless on the floor, a knife beside her and her wrists slit open. I dropped to my knees and cried harder than I ever had before.
"M-mom!" I cried, hugging her lifeless body, I got my phone out and called 911.As the paramedics carried my mom out of the house, I felt like my world was destroyed. After I lost my dad in a car accident two years ago, my mom hasn't been the same person. She tried her hardest to be the best mom to be, which to me, no matter what, she was the best mom.
"Ms. Ethan?" Officer Gordon said, walking over to me.
"Y-yeah?" I stammered, trying to calm myself.
"Do you have a place where you can live for now on? You're sixteen, and you can't live alone." I couldn't think of anyone else besides my aunt Clair.
Me and my aunt Clair weren't that close when I was growing up, she lives in New York, while I live here in San Francisco. Maybe she'll let me live with her for now.
"My aunt Clair, in New York." I said. Officer Gordon nodded and patted my back.
"Will you be okay?" He asked, I looked at the ground.
"I'll be pretty shook for a while, Officer. But yeah, I'll be okay." Officer Gordon smiled at me and walked back to his cruiser. Now, all I need to do is contact my aunt Clair.
