A sour sensation stained my mouth and that light that poured in stung my eyes. My entire body ached and trembled, utterly exposed to the frigidity. The metal chins that clung to my wrists were ice that my arms couldn't lift. The effort of forcing my eyelids open was too great and the fear cloaked in darkness that came when I let them was overwhelming. I felt my organs twist with hunger, watched in helpless horror and et rats picked at my toes, let my tongue become a plank of wood.
I tried to rest, but the sleep was more exhausting than staying awake. Lucidity slipped in and out like some twisted game of fetch. At times, understanding was excruciatingly close, and at others it was hopelessly absent. Time warped around me, minutes were days, days were seconds, seconds were eternities.
