Maxi ran through a plant-filled forest, yet, the flowers were all dead and the grass, dehydrated. Refusing to turn around as she ran, mind flooded with regret and sadness, tears running down her cheek. I'm sorry mom. She thought to herself, choking on her guilt as she sat down on a rock twice her size. She had run away from home, sick of the drama, the fighting. All the little thoughts tormented her. Maxi sat there, crying to herself, she was tired of life, yet had the determination to keep moving on. She fumbled around her backpack, trying to find something to snack on. Then she heard it, A painful little meow. Maxi darted her eyes around, trying to find where it had come from. She looked over at a small bush and saw a black little kitten laying there, crying out in agony. It meowed again, looking at Maxi. "Shh, It's okay..." She whispered, Scooping up the small kitten who was bleeding out from its leg. Maxi looked at its wound, it was a fresh cut. She carried it over to the rock and sat down. "Don't worry, Little thing." She said, trying to lighten the mood. She tore off one of her sleeves and wrapped it around the kitten's wounded leg, attempting to stop the blood from flowing out anymore, As well as pulling a blanket out of her backpack and putting it under the small kitten.
After a few hours, The kitten was able to limp, It was an improvement. Maxi had found out its gender, It was a male. She cuddled with him, "I'll call you Twig." She smiled, watching the sun disappear behind the trees. She closed her eyes for just a moment, opening them around half an hour later to see that Twig was no longer next to her. She darted up, trying to find him as her eyes adjusted to the dark world around her. "Twig, Where are you?!" Maxi hollered out, No response. After a short moment, A leaf crunched behind her. Turning around, She saw Twig. "There you are, You had me worried sick!" Maxi cried out. The small kitten turned around and began walking away as if he wanted Maxi to follow him. Why isn't he limping? Maxi thought, She quickly caught up, and followed him to a strange hole in the ground. He stopped walking and sat down, Licking his paw and letting out a meow. "A hole..?" Maxi murmured. Curious, She found a rock and dropped it down, No sound of it hitting the bottom. "What, do you expect me to jump in that?!" Maxi stared at Twig, Who stared back. Out of nowhere, Twig jumped in. "NO!" Maxi yelled, watching him fall into the darkness. She couldn't help but jump in after him, whether it kills her or not.
Maxi stared above her, Watching the area she was just in getting smaller until it was just a little spec. Her eyes glimmered with tears, She turned to look down at Twig who was carefully adjusting himself. She turned her focus to below her, Where a small world was getting bigger and bigger. "This is it, This is how I die." She sighed, Glaring at Twig. After what felt like an hour of falling, they had slowed down to the point they were nearly floating, She grabbed a hold of Twig, hugging him as they set foot on the ground. She froze in shock for a moment, looking around her. It was like the forest they were in a while ago, but different, more lively. "Where are we..?" Maxi couldn't help but ask, Overwhelmed with emotions. "This mystical place does not have a name, You can call it anything you'd like." Twig meowed. "You can talk?!" Maxi gasped. "Of course, and I would like to thank you for saving me and giving me a name." The kitten said cheerfully, laying down in her lap. Maxi put her hand on Twig's head, Petting him. "I don't know what to do anymore..." She trailed off, eyes tearing up. "There's much more to life than you think, Maxi." Twig licked his paw. "Like what?" She asked. "Friends, Loved ones, Adventures... You're the one in control, Don't let others play with your emotions." Twig meowed, rubbing his head on her hand. Maxi nodded, wiping her cheeks and laying down.
"Thank you, Twig." She sighed, closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
