Slaying Dragons (a poem)

Hold on little darling, tell me what is wrong

I would fight the demons and slay the dragons

Your enemies are mine as well

I would face them, with only love; no weapons

I would light a torch to carry in dark corridors,

Searching for your captive places

Not as hero, nor as saint, nor as rescuer

But to give you the time to save yourself

And care for you, just as you are
