A/N: Merry Christmas! I'm probably going to be doing three 2019 Christmas drabbles, and here's number one! No smut, no angst, just feels!
You and your boyfriend Namjoon had been seeing each other for about two years. Not very long, you supposed, but long enough to know that he was the love of your life. Since the moment he first walked into your work as a new co-worker and shook your hand with a wild blush, you've been whipped for him. He was kind and funny, smart, creative...you could go on. Basically, saying yes when he asked you to go on a museum date with him was the smartest decision you'd ever made.
You'd been living together now for about six months - and though it had it's ups and downs on occasion since you were both only human - it had only cemented your belief that the two of you were meant to be. A day never went by where Namjoon didn't find some way to make you feel important and loved. He wasn't exactly one for grand romantic declarations, but it was the little things. The way he showed you that you were always on his mind.
It was currently Christmas Eve and the apartment was a riotous mess of decorations. You may have gone a little overboard, but you'd been so excited that it was the first Christmas in your shared home. Since you had gone and done all of the decorating while Namjoon had been at work, he'd offered to wrap all the presents while you finished your baking in the kitchen.
You hum as you scoop your sugar cookies onto a cookie sheet, sliding it into the oven when you're done. While that bakes, you start prepping your icing ingredients. You can hear Namjoon in the living room rapping along with the music he's listening to. You smile and shake your head. He's so cute.
Just as you're adding the green dye to one batch of icing, the music abruptly stops.
"Babe?" Namjoon yells from the living room. "Can you come here for a minute?"
As you run to the living room, every scenario your adorably clumsy boyfriend could have found himself in ran through your mind. A toppled tree or tragic tinsel accident was top of the list. He hadn't sounded very hurt, so you ruled out scissors or box cutters.
Nothing had prepared you for what you saw instead.
Your boyfriend looked up at you from his spot on the floor, his eyes so wide and confused, pleading for help. He was completely covered in bits of tape and bright red patterned wrapping paper. There was some wrapped around his arms, balled bits of tape and paper in his hair, a whole thigh was practically wrapped like a present. It was like the wrapping paper and tape had exploded and landed on him.
The presents themselves were in a pile next to him that at first glance appeared to be a trash pile, until you noticed bits of the boxes and bags of items poking through the paper.
Namjoon raises his hands towards you and you finally see what he'd called you for. The poor thing had managed to tape his wrists together.
He was so adorably confused and looking up at you with that cute face made you want to laugh. Your heart swelled with fondness, knowing you were going to love this klutz for the rest of your life.
"Marry me," you blurted. Your face bloomed with color as you realized what you'd said. But you didn't take it back.
Namjoon lowered his arms, searching your face. "What?"
"Marry me. I love you so much. God, you're so cute. Why are you so cute?"
You sigh and drop to the floor near him and grab the nearby scissors, making quick work of his bindings.
He's silent and it's starting to make you uncomfortable. Feeling the need to break the ice, you force a giggle.
"If you wanted to be tied up, Joonie, you just have to ask."
He rolls his eyes as he peels off the last of the tape. He leans over and pulls out a tiny lump of wrapping paper from under the Christmas tree when he's done, thrusting it towards your face with a blush.
"If you were serious just now, then open this," he murmurs, then bites his lip as he watches you pick at the paper.
Your hands are shaking, because if this is what you think it is...
When the horrible wrapping is off, a small velvet ring box is revealed. Your breath hitches as you click the lid open. Inside is the ring that you pointed out to him one time at the mall...a whole year ago.
"Joon?"
He chuckles and leans over to peck your lips, reaching up with his thumb to caress your cheek lovingly.
"Yes, I'll marry you. Thank you for asking."
You slap his shoulder. "Oh my God, you were going to ask me to marry you and I...oh my God. I messed everything up. I'm so sorry."
"Nah," he pulled you onto his lap, ignoring your nose crinkling in annoyance over all the tape and wrapping paper covering him. "I like this better. This is more "us" I think. Just the two of us in our home, being dorks."
"You were being a dork. I was fine," you grin, giggling when he bites your shoulder in retaliation.
"I love you. I can't wait to marry you," you sigh and lean up to kiss him. He smiles against your lips, crushing you closer.
"I love you too, baby," he whispers, nuzzling his nose against yours.
His eyes are mischevious as he pulls away, his kiss-reddened lips smirking.
"So about being tied up - is that smoke?"
You jump off Namjoon's lap and run towards the kitchen shrieking.
"MY COOKIES!"
Namjoon's laugh follows you from the living room and you're not even mad. You love that man. And he's going to eat all the burnt cookies since he loves you.
