Do you think he is going to ask you?" Peyton asked me. Prom was in two weeks and no one had asked me, but everyone in my group had dates. I was starting to get worried. Peyton always thought that Sam and I would end up together. I guess the thought was nice, but he only saw me as a best friend. He probably didn't feel the same way I did. Sam and I had been best friends since kindergarten, and I had been in love with him ever since.
"Why would Sam ask me? He's been so out of it lately. I feel like he's avoiding me." I noticed. She laughed and looked away from me. What was so funny? I ignored her strange attitude, and walked towards the parking lot.
From far away, I could see loads of balloons, and a bunch of people gathered up. Ooh! Someone was getting promposed to. I loved promposals! They were so exciting. The signs, balloons, the replies. It was all so magical. I grabbed Peyton's hand and dragged her through the crowd so I could see who was asking who.
I finally made it to the front of the crowd, and there it was. Sam was in full view holding red roses. The basketball team had been holding a sign that said "prom". I wonder who Sam was proposing to? He never bothered to tell me he was even asking someone. A part of me kind of wished he was asking me, but I knew that wasn't possible.
He began walking towards me, and I tried to shoo him away. He laughed and continued to walk towards me.
"Sam! What are you doing? Your date is gonna think you're asking me!" I warned.
"Who do you think I'm asking?" His chuckle was like music.
"I don't know! Where is she?" I asked with a hand on my hip, "and why didn't you tell me you were promposing to someone?! I could have helped!"
Then Sam pointed the roses at me, and knelt down on one knee. Wait a second..why is he kneeling in front of me? All the pieces were finally put together. That's why he had been avoiding me lately! It all made sense.
"I guess this is the right time to say this. Ryleigh, I've been in love with you since we were kids. Will you go to prom with me?"
Sam's face was completely red.The crowd around us continued to chant, "Say yes!" I already knew my answer. This was something I had been dreaming about since elementary school. Except, Sam was supposed to be proposing marriage. This was good enough!
"I love you too, Sam, and yes I will go to prom with you." I said while grabbing the flowers. He stood up from his kneel, and picked me up and spun me around. The crowd around us cheered, and you could hear cars honking.
Sam put me down, and pressed his lips onto mine. His lips were sweet, and I could feel the jealous stares of the girls around me. We separated after who knows how long, and that's when we noticed the crowd began to leave.
We laughed then he pecked my lips one more time. His hand rested on my waist and I kept my arms around his neck. Our foreheads laid against each other.
"So you feel the same way?" He asked breathlessly.
I answered with another peck on the lips, and that's how I got together with my best friend
