Technology is changing rapidly. Especially internet, affects our lives in many fields. We can communicate
with lots of people from different part of the world and we can educate ourselves on internet. Internet affects our lives in a pozitive way, but it can affect in a negative way too. I am going to mention some of them.
We can improve listening skills by listening native speakers on internet. In the past, people had no choice to listen native speaker but in today's world, it is too easy to reach those people. By doing it, we can improve our pronounciation skills. Also lots of children meet with English at such a young age. They start to learn English or any other language at the age of one or much younger than that. Their brains are open to learning, so they can easily learn English through cartoons or games. Without realizing they start to include English on their lives thus, they know lots of words in English when they reach their childood years, but it can affect of learning native language. This is the effect of this cause. Maybe your children cannot learn his/her native language. Baby can grow up as bilingual, but it can affect his/her native language learning process. We should teach our native language in a proper way. We should observe our kids when they are learning a new language.
Internet means that do something in a swift way. We are busy and lots of people working 9 to 5 everyday or even more than that. These people want to learn or improve their language skills. They prefer to learn or improve their language skills on internet because they spend less effort and they learn English from their houses. They can find lots of videos on internet. Their lengths are changing, so they can choose a video which is proper for that person at that time, but it can be dangerous. You do not know the person who is teaching English to you on internet. You cannot know which book he/she is going or is he/she know English very well? He/She can affect your learning skills. You cannot learn English properly. I think this is the effect of this cause. You cannot learn English properly. Online lessons can affect you in a bad way if you cannot get proper knowledge about English. Well, you should search these things properly before you start to take online lessons. You should search the advantages of the program. You can learn wrong informations about English, so it is really important to choose proper online lesson.
Internet also affect our writing and speaking skills. Videos, online games, online tutors, songs, social media... These are the fields that we are using English, but it is danger for "formal" language. What does it mean? Well, basically it means we tend to use what is basic to say or write. It damages the language. We are messaging our friends by using abbreviations of words. We are messaging our friends like "how r u?" or "btw, idk" instead of writing full forms of these words. When we are speaking, we are using internet language, but it damages both English and Turkish. Degenerating a language is the effect of this issue. Sometimes we are using English words when we are speaking Turkish because we tend to show what we are learning. Both Turkish and English degenerates because of this and day by day, we start to lose our language ability. We should protect these languages. Protecting a language means protecting a culture.
To conclude, language is really important. Internet contributes a lot our learning process, but also damages the language itself. We should be aware of this, because we are the ones who should protect our native language. I mentioned some situations while learning a new language, and what situations we may encounter during the learning process. Also I mentioned the affect of internet on our children.
