Despite the fact that you had gotten home late last night, you woke up before your alarm even went off. Not soon afterwards, a delicious aroma filled the kitchen and permeated the house. The normally pristine kitchen became disheveled, with sauce pans, vegetable peelings, and various implements all over the place. “Are you sure you should be awake so early in the morning?” You lifted your head from the midst of cooking and beamed brightly at your father.

“I’m fine Otousan,” you reassured him, scooping up some of the morning miso for him.

“Alright then,” he reluctantly agreed before sitting down at the dining room table. You placed the bowl of soup down in front of him and turned your attention back to the bento you had been arranging carefully.

‘I hope he’s hungry!’

“If keeping the secrets of the Byakugan is the top priority of the Hyuuga clan, then keeping the bloodline pure is a close second,” Gai explained. “Arranged marriages aren’t uncommon in the Hyuuga clan.” Lee needed no further explanation. TenTen’s face paled.

This wasn’t what you had expected.

“Haven’t I said that  I don’t want to be bothered while training?” His face bore a stony expression much unlike his usual calm and collected demeanor. Your face flushed; your first instinct was to explain that you had just returned and simply wanted to surprise him, but his tone made it evident that he didn’t care what your reasoning was.

“Yes,” you reply stiffly. The arm carrying the bento suddenly felt a lot heavier.
