This is a Legend of Zelda fan fiction me and my friend Brooke are writing together. It's set after Twilight Princess, but the characters and places lean more towards Ocarina of Time. So it's kind of a mixture of the two... Which, in my personal opinion, would be the BEST LOZ GAME EVER.

Sorry, fan-girl moment.

Anyways, I'm putting this under the romance category, because that's going to play a big part in it. I should get there, maybe in the next chapter. So if that's why you clicked it... Continue to watch for new chapters! There truly is love in the air... Er, screen!

Anway, regardless of why you clicked on my story, thank you for doing so. I hope you enjoy The Heart of Stone.

Disclaimer: I sadly do not own The Legend of Zelda... I do however own the original characters in this story... Just not all of them. )':

There once was a young man named Ren. Never did he think of himself of more than what he was. Just a young 16 year old who lived in Hyrule. But apparently, to everyone else, it was his genealogy that made all the difference. He was the great grandson of the fearless fighter, Link. Who had defeated numerous villains and who married the beautiful Princess Zelda.

That was all people ever saw him for. That he was supposedly the fighting prodigy of Link. People had long spoken about his strength and girls swooned without resistant to his similar appearance to Link.

But this wasn't his only problem. Now the newest princess, his young cousin Seera, had ordered him to repair something called a Twilight Mirror (or that's what his people called the ruins of an old mirror place nearby).

Ren had heard that this was once the mirror Link had opened to go into the Twilight Realm, and where he had met the beautiful Twilight Princess, Midna. What would happen if he would open the portal once it was repaired? If only he knew...

"REN!" Seera shouted from the opposite side of the castle garden, which Ren was lounging in.

He jumped up, shaken from his hazy daydreams.

"Y-yeah?!" Ren called back.

"Please, come here. I need to ask you something!" She replied.

Ren weaved through the jungle of carefully trimmed trees and rose bushes, until he found his way to his cousin, the Princess of Hyrule.

"What is it?" Ren asked warily. Seera asked him to do a lot of rather unnecessary tasks. He believed the power might be getting to her head. But he just couldn't say no. She was a pain some times, but she was still family and he loved her nonetheless.

Seera flashed him one of her charming grins. "Cousin, dear, how is the mirror coming along? Are you making much progress in repairing it?"

Oh, Goddesses... He hadn't even laid his eyes upon the thing since she first asked him to fix it for her. He became wary even thinking of it. From what he had heard, the Mirror of Twilight was literally shattered into millions of pieces. Unfix-able! Why did she ask him to fix it? She should ask a professional or something...

"Uhm..." Ren scratched the back of his head nervously, as Seera impatiently narrowed her eyes at him.

"Well... to be honest, Seera, I haven't had time to." Ren said. Which, in turn, was a complete lie. He had all the time I the world. And Seera knew it.

You could see the flame of frustration light up in her blue eyes.

"Haven't had time?!" She questioned loudly, "But you've had time to sit in this garden all day long doing nothing but drown in self-pity. You talk about being bored with your life... So I go out of my way to think up things for you to do... Yet you don't do them!" She hissed. "You are nothing like our late great grandfather Link. People think you are, just because you look like him, but you're really just a lazy, good-for-nothing teenager, who will never amount to ANYTHING!"

With that said, she marched away, back into the castle, her face red, and her hands balled into tight fists at her sides.

Ren let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding and frowned.

Maybe she was right; he'd never amount to anything. Never meet his people's expectations. Where did his grandfather Link get his motivation to always take on the task set before him?

Ren had heard the legends countless times, and thought back to them... He realized that there was always someone who Link cared about in danger. Ren didn't have anybody in danger... He just had a broken mirror, and a bratty cousin.

Ren began walking away, both angered and feeling guilty about neglecting the bratty princess. It was his fault but she didn't have to be so pushy about it. Ren made his way out of the castle courtyard and back toward the road which led to his Castle Town, where he lived. Hopefully he would be able to figure out how to fix the mirror.

Later that night, Ren lay in his bed asleep, tossing and turning from his dream:

He was running through a place that he'd never seen before. Filled with shadows, and strange lurking creatures. He heard a screech of terror, and ran to where the noise came from. It looked like a castle. It was tall, black, and had many glowing patterns on it.

As he raced inside, he came upon a large set of black doors. Pushing them open, he cautiously creeped inside, eyes widening as he saw a young, strange colored girl, being advanced on by another tall, dark figure.

The strange-looking girl's piercing, red eyes met his and he felt a strange connection form between them. He felt the desire and responsibility to save her.

"Ren..." She spoke, her voice angelic, "Please, assist me and my people in our time of need. Repair the mirror of the Twili people, Ren, and come find me. You are our only hope." She whispered desperately, as she was carried away by the dark, shadow figure.

Ren jolted upright in his bed, suddenly wide awake.

"What a strange dream..." He muttered, rubbing his tired eyes.

The Twilight Mirror. She had said something about the Mirror. Ren thought for a long time, then came to a realization. What if that was the great heir of the Twilight Princess Midna? The woman Link had saved. Ren rubbed his head and took a deep breath. Tomorrow he would take another look at that mirror.
