" At this moment we commit these two hearts of purity to the ground let their souls watch over the child they left behind " A Pastor spoke

Silas walked away he couldn't bear to see their bodies enter the ground. He found himself staring into the water of a crimson tile fountain. What looked back at him was the only thing he recognized this entire week. After the death of his parents in a mysterious house fire, Silas's mind began to fade in and out of conciseness as he moved with the flow of time.

The funeral was over and Silas was all alone staring at himself, his roasted caramel brown skin glistened as the sunlight bounced off the waters,  his short jet black curly snow-white highlighted hair hung around his head covering his ears.

A tan white man with a shaven bearded and eyes like the midnight sky stood behind Silas and placed a single hand on his back. Silas flinched pushing the hand away.

" Who are you " Silas questioned

" I'm your Paternal grandfather " The man spoke

" Oliver " Silas spat

" Yes, its time to go " Oliver stated turning and walking toward the funeral hall

*Oliver appeared two days after Silas's parents died, he became Silas's guardian but never actually met him until just now*

Silas followed his estranged grandfather out to a limo and away from the death hall. Silas and Oliver didn't speak at all, they rode to an airport, walked through the airport and onto their plane. Silas put on his headphones and closed his eyes allowing time to pass him by.

Oliver picked Silas up after their plane landed and drove to his house in Salem, a twenty-one thousand square foot stone mansion. It had a large garden in the front and was surrounded by a forest.

Once on his property Oliver levitated Silas as he dragged his things inside.

" Oh Lord Shadow is back " a blonde short and round woman in her mid-thirties spoke gliding down the stairs.

Oliver handed Silas over to the woman and said

" Charlie, take him to the east wing " Oliver spoke

Charlie pulled Silas into the east wing and unpacked his bags. Charlie danced around the ex-abandoned room-filling its drawers and closet. Charlie left leaving Silas sleep on a cotton and silk made bed.

Silas woke up at around seven pm the sky was dark and as he walked down the large red-carpeted steps Charlie appeared rounding the corner.

"Baron Shadow, its dinner time " Charlie spoke

Silas followed Charlie into a large dining hall where Oliver sat in the back gracefully eating a chicken salad.

The next few months went like this, Silas went most of the day stayed up at night and had dinner with Oliver at seven. One day Silas grew tired of this tedious routine so he skipped dinner opting to wander around the manor. He raced down corridors and halls until he came to a hall with spider webs everywhere. He glided through the hall until he came to the door of mahogany wood.

Silas forced the door open and migrated to the center of the room. A gold and sapphire encrusted wooden chest sat in the center. Silas's curiosity lured him toward the chest, he traced his finger along the chest lock and it opened. clasping his hands around whatever the chest contained Silas pulled out a black leather book with an amethyst gem in the center.

Silas ran down the halls and into the dining where Oliver sat eating

" What the hell is this " Silas spoke throwing the book at Oliver

" It's a family heirloom "

" Keep going " Silas spoke sitting down

Oliver continued to explain his family's entire history.

*The Shadow family was one of the first five families to gain magic. every member of their family even half members were blessed with extraordinary magical gifts except for Silas's father, so Milo told everyone. Milo made everyone think he was the worst Witch to ever have magic but in reality, he was great at it.  Milo had been married to a  powerful witch named Eve and divorced her to marry Jade Silas's mom. Eve could only track those who had magic so Milo gave his up to be with Jade and hide from his crazy ex-wife.

Oliver left out the fact that Eve and Milo had a son just before Silas was born. A son named Cyrus.

Every shadow family member has received education from Quindell Academy*

" Would you like to go to Quindell?" Oliver asked

" Ok, but I have no magic " Silas spoke

" The book can only be seen by those with magic so you have it " Oliver reassured

Oliver gets up from where he stood to make a phone call to the headmistress of Quindell Academy.

Silas returns to his room and falls asleep reading over the black book.
