Zenitsu X Reader

I was walking down the path on a rainy day. it was supposed to be a group mission between me, Zenitsu, Tanjirou and Inosuke but the three went off without me, mostly Inosuke just dragging the other two along. he was a pretty boy, i'll give him that, but I wasn't fond of his personality.

I carried my bag on my back and my katana on my hip, on my way to a village down north. it was raining pretty hard, but I got the idea to use a traditional straw hat to keep myself mostly dry. it wasn't an ideal mission, but it was a mission and I was too afraid to defy "him".

I had been walking the entire day, and my legs were starting to give out on me. I kept going though, not ready to take a break until it was too dark to see ahead of me.

I walked around a corner of the path I was walking on, and I found a familiar face. it was Zenitsu, he looked like he had been dragged across the mud and was soaking wet. he was trembling from the cold, and he looked sad.

"Zenitsu?" I said softly, he he turns to me, noticing my presence.

he smiled slightly, "Y/N? you caught up."

"Well, kinda. what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Oh. the two left me behind, so i'm just here waiting for a demon to eat me alive." he said pessimistically.

I pouted, I never liked it when he put himself down like that. I couldn't lie, I had a crush on him, but I was too stubborn to admit it out loud. I had to focus on being a demon slayer and avenging the death of my best friend, BFF/N.

"So... you plan to give up?" I said, Zenitsu turning to me wide eyed but I was dead serious, "Your just waiting for yourself to die? waiting for the inevitable to happen?"

he jumped to me and grabbed onto my legs with his muddy hands, "What's the point!? i'm weak! I might as well just sit here and die!"

I grabbed him by the collar, "Why wait for the inevitable when you can fight it instead!?" Zenitsu's eyes went wider, as if they weren't already so wide. I continued, "Why sit waiting for a destiny you think your going to have when you can make your own destiny yourself!?" he looked like he might cry. I felt a sense of guilt, but I wasn't gonna allow him to give up.

I pick up Zenistu and put him on his feet.

"Y-Y/N, what are you doing?" Zenistu stutters.

I got my bag and shuffled for my other traditional straw hat, "I'm not gonna leave you behind, not like Inosuke and Tanjiro did. your coming with me even if I have to drag you by the collar."

"eh!? Maria I-." I interrupted him and put a straw hat on his head, to keep him from getting more soaked.

I then grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him along. he dragged his feet behind me as we continued to walk. I didn't notice, but Zenitsu was blushing hard. he had an urge to ask me to marry him right then and there.

It soon finally stopped raining. we had walked until it it was dusk, and we both agreed to stop and take a rest for the night. Zenitsu set up a fire while I set up a sleeping place. I had taken a low long branch from a tree and just took my haori to use it as a tent. I had less warmth on me, but if me and Zenitsu were to cuddle... we could be warm... the thought of that alone made my face red. Zenitsu ended up being too scared to start a fire, afraid he'd burn himself, so I ended up doing that myself.

we were able to get a fire going. I stayed by it to get warm, and so did Zenitsu.

I spoke, "Ok, I think you should take the first night shift, i'll do the second. one of us need to be on alert at all times."

"Well ok." He continued to warm himself off, trying to get dry from today. He looked at me with concern, "Say, Y/N, about what you said earlier, about making your own destiny? What makes you believe that?"

I turned to him, "Hm? Well, I had a best friend who used to say that. She was very brave, maybe crazy, but she had a big heart and a lot of wisdom for her age then." I said smiling.

"I don't think you've ever told me about this friend of yours. Whats she like?" He asked me interested.

I relaxed my body, "Well like I said, she was crazy and brave, but with a big heart and a lot of wisdom. However, she was also very loyal, she wouldn't leave me behind even if she had to drag me by the ear. She was also very cheerful, she was always able to see the light in everything, even in the most darkest of places..." I paused, my smile fading, "... Even when she was dying she had a smile on her face..."

Zenitsu noticed my sad demeanor, and he turned to me and scooted over to me, "Do you wanna talk about it?"

I looked to him, and also turned to face him, taking a deep breath, "It was a light night at our village. we were all having a good time together with a lit up event, just celebrating life and happiness by lighting up the night. me and BFF/N, my best friend since we were babies, wanted to go check up on the baby birds we were taking care of at the time, baby birds who lost their mother, and so we went into the night forest with just one lantern. we never did make it to those baby birds, because I got caught by a demon. I could've died, but she..." I choked on my words, "... She sacrificed herself for me, allowing herself to be eaten alive by that, thing, just so I could live to see another day. she was crying, and in pain, but she... continued to smile through it, saying "at least you get to live" to me... and that was the last time I saw her..." I cried as I whipped away tears.

suddenly, Zenitsu wraps his arms around me and holds me close. it was out of no where for me, but I hugged him back, crying in his shoulder. he soothed me, petting my hair as he comforted me, "Y/N, Im sure if she were to see you now she would be proud, so don't lose hope ok?" I was almost taken aback by his words, but he was right, I couldn't afford to lose hope, its what BFF/N would want from me. so, I smiled in his shoulder as I let the tears fall down my cheeks.

"Hey Y/N, will you marry me?"

"eh... ZENITSU YOU JUST LIKED RUINED THE MOMENT." I backed out of his embraced and started hitting him against the head. I pouted as he held his head, and he pouted himself. I sighed as I blushed and said, "Well see about it."

"what?" he said.

"NOTHING just keep watch until midnight, im going to sleep." I pouted as I walked to the tent for bed.

"oh, ok." he smiles, and goes back to warming up at the fire.

I went into the tent, and laid down on the bed of leaves I made, as I drifted off. to be honest, I would marry Zenitsu, however were both too young so its still early, but maybe one day we will.

(time skip)

"... one day we will." I read my vows out loud, "Is what I thought back then. and here we are. that day has finally arrived, and I couldn't be happier." I said to Zenitsu.

he was already sobbing and dripping at the nose, and Nezuko, one of the brides maids, hands me a tissue from the box of tissues she brought, both of us knowing this would happen, and I handed it to Zenitsu. he whipped his tears and blew his nose, as the pastor gives him last words.

"Zenitsu Agatsuma, do you wish to love and care for Y/N, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

"I do."

"And Y/N L/N, do you wish to love and care for Zenitsu, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

"I do."

"Then I pronounce you both husband and wife! You may kiss the bride."

We both kiss as everyone cheers. Inosuke has already ripped his shirt off, Tanjirou politely applauds, Nezuko and Mitsuri and Shinobu congratulate me; everyone celebrates our love.

I love Zenitsu, and no one else could make me more happier than him.
