You zoom around on your boom on the Quidditch field during practice one afternoon after classes. You're alone on the field, deciding to get some extra practice outside of normal practice with the rest of the Ravenclaw team.
As you're flying, you see a figure walking towards the field, a broom in his hand. You frown as you swoop over him. It's the Gryffindor captain—Oliver Wood. He must have had the same idea as you. You've never had any hostility towards Wood, so you decide to wrap up your practice to give him the field to himself.
Just as you start to descend, a rogue Bludger comes hurtling at you. You see it, but aren't quick enough to maneuver around it. It smashes into your broom, throwing you off of it. You scream, flailing, as you plummet to the ground. You pointlessly reach out for something—anything—to stop your fall. You know this fall will either gravelly injure you or kill you.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Oliver snatches you from the air, holding onto you with an iron grip. You gasp in surprise, breathing hard. You stare up at him. His face is set in determination, a vein on the side of his forehead pulsing. He safely lands and sets you gently on the ground of the field.
You look up at Oliver, trying to catch your breath, your whole body shaking. "Y-you saved me." You breathe.
He kneels beside you, his eyes filled with worry. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just a little shaken, that's all." You whisper, rubbing your arm. "Thank you. For saving me." You say, staring at him.
He smiles at you. "Anytime. You were lucky I was here." He sticks his hand out. "By the way, I'm Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor captain."
You smile. "I'm Y/N L/N, Ravenclaw Beater." You return.
"The Bludger almost killed you."
"I know. It came out of nowhere." You grimace.
He grabs your hand and helps you up. "Are you going to be okay walking back by yourself?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I think I'm just going to walk around a little bit to calm my nerves."
"I'll see you around then, Y/N." He smiles at you.
"See you around. And thank you again for saving my life."
"Anytime." He nods at you.

Over the course of the next few days, you keep running into Oliver, whether in classes, in the hall, or at meals.
You turn a corner in the library one morning and run straight into Oliver. "Whoa, hey." You laugh, taking a step back and steadying yourself.
"Why do we keep running into each other...literally?" He laughs.
"I feel like besides Quidditch games, I haven't really seen you around that often. But now I've seen you multiple times a day for the past few days. It's weird!"
"It's like now that we know each other exists, we have an eye out for each other."
For some reason it makes you blush and you look away from him. "Well, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were following me to make sure that I don't find any other ways to endanger myself." You murmur.
He steps close to you. "Well, it's a good thing you know better." He winks, before brushing past you. You watch him walk away, smiling, your heart pounding a little faster.
———
Over the course of the next few months, Oliver and you become close friends. You really enjoy seeing him and talking with him every single time your paths cross or you hang out. You're falling for him hard. At first you didn't want to admit it to yourself, but when you got caught daydreaming about him in Professor McGonagall's class, you decided to admit your feelings and be honest with yourself.
One morning you're leaving Hogwarts to go to Hogsmeade for the day.
"Hey, Y/N, can I talk to you for a minute?" Oliver says from behind you.
You look to your Ravenclaw friends. "I'll catch up to you later." You tell them, before stepping away and moving towards Oliver, the butterflies fluttering wildly in your stomach. "Hey." You smile at him nervously. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, everything is really good." He smiles. He takes a step towards you. "I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Yeah?" You raise your eyebrows slightly, trying to keep it cool despite your heart threatening to jump out of your chest.
Oliver swallows and that's when you notice how fidgety he is. He clears throat. "Y/N, ever since you fell out of the sky all of those months ago, I also fell. I fell for you. Getting to know you and become close with you these past few months has been amazing and it has been an honor. I just can't keep my feelings for you hidden any more. I love you, Y/N." He blurts out. You stare at him, your eyes going wide. He stops and then takes a step away from you, his eyes also going big. "I'm-I'm sorry." He breathes.
"No! Don't be sorry. Don't be sorry." You breathe. "I-I'm in love with you too." You whisper.
He stares at you. "You are?" He whispers. You nod. "Oh, Y/N." He breathes, pulling you into his arms. You hold onto him tightly, all sorts of feelings coursing through you. He looks down at you and kisses your forehead, before burying his face in your hair.
