A Little Thing Called Love

It was a nice night that night. Light fog touched the ground leaving the cement moist to the touch. The trees lightly swayed in the semi wind. The moon partly blocked by grey clouds scattered upon the starry sky. Valador and I walked, without touching, to a restaurant downtown about ten minutes from my house.

"The moon looks beautiful tonight, does it not?" Valador asked, moving closer to me. I lightly shuddered to the feeling of his closeness, but didn't move away as it didn't make me uncomfortable.

"It does... Probably the reason I am so calm," I replied looking up to the sky. I felt his hand grasp mine and I stopped and looked at him, he looked down into my eyes.

"I won't hurt you Emily. never in an entire Vampire lifetime would I ever hurt you." He lightly grasped my face with his free hand and placed a light kiss on my lips. It took my breath away; I felt my cheeks brighten with shyness and pleasure. I thought of pulling away, but my body gave in to another feeling and leaned into him; my free hand reaching up to his face, my lips falling into his, my eyes closing so as to experience the full form of wonder.

It seemed to last years, that light kiss, and when he released me, he looked at into my eyes as I did him and I saw an emotion I could only describe as love. I was speechless and shy. He stroked my cheek and grabbed my hand leading me to downtown. All I could was look down and touch my lips with my fingertips so as to feel the still vibrant tingle of his kiss.

We arrived at the restaurant, a little burger place on the corner by the police department downtown. When we were seated at a table overlooking menus, I realized I couldn't not talk to him until I was back home; I looked up at him and blushed instantly, I quickly grabbed my cup of water and took a few sips.

"So what are you planning on getting, since they don't serve packets of blood here?" I asked, sorely feeling like an idiot after.

He looked up from his menu with a slight smile as he looked at me. "I was thinking just a burger and fries. I can eat normal food, but a rare burger is a nice dinner as well," he said, chuckling a bit afterwards.

"Of course you can, I'll probably get the same," I softly said looking back at my menu and kicking myself for it. It's already been shown he isn't like a vampire in the books, let alone still probably not a vampire at all. And I'll never find out unless the sun kills him or he bites me. Both of which I would rather not experience.

The waiter soon came and took our order. We sat there in silence for a minute, until I figured I should ask about him. "So, tell me about yourself."

Valador looked surprised and relieved I was talking. "Well, I should start with the fact that in vampire years I am about 987 years old. However, in human aspects of it I am 23.

"So wait, you've been alive for a thousand years or so? And turned when you were 23?" I asked, surprised and confused. If he has indeed lived a thousand years, I have to wonder what all he has experienced and seen and even lived.

"Well, yes technically. I was born in Britain, in October of 1005. I was the son of a duke, but I wanted more than anything to travel the world. So one day, not long after I turned 20, I traveled into Europe. I went to France, Amsterdam, and then made my way down into Romania. I loved the countryside there and the culture. So I decided to stay for a while and learn about its history. I was there for about eight months or so when I met a man, who was about my age, named Adrian. He grew up in Romania, but he spoke as if he had seen the world. He became a close friend."
